ANON BUD  Quite simply the finest, most comprehensive program of its kind available for the Mac. Hands down beats out Logos software for Windows. I've been using Accordance for years and have never had any problems. Absolutely indispensable for the serious bible student or scholar!

DOUG EDDY  I have used Accordance for ages. I have needed assistance a number of times for problems that were of my own doing. I cannot begin to say how pleased I have been with their support. At all times they have been professional, helpful and down right friendly. Additionally, they have continued to develop the product and provide invaluable resources. Especially appreciated is their continued support of and effective use of the Mac environment.

I am writing this primarily in response to an earlier negative review that reflected none of my experience. Their products are excellent, their support superb and my only regret is that I don't have a few more bucks to purchase additional modules for my program.

SEAN0629  Accordance is the most powerful, elegant, and sophisticated Bible software program available. This built only for the Macintosh program is structured around a simple, straightforward philosophy: in Bible study, the Bible is central. While numerous add-on modules are available (commentaries, dictionaries, books, lexicons, etc.), the focus remains the Bible. Nearly every modern translation and most historical translations of the Bible are available in Accordance, including original language texts with extensive tagging information.

For more information, visit www.accordancebible.com and download the free demo. I did just that a year ago and was instantly hooked.

MACSWEEP  Accordance, in my experience is for people who want to study what other people say about the Bible. That's why there are all those modules with other people's opinions says and means. It is not easy to use for actual studying.

My experience with Oak tree has been very poor. The forum moderator is a very sour person refusing to let someone on the forum unless the person's email reflects a "real name".

Their support is also bottom of the barrel, I could not get anywhere on a issue where the app wouldn't load strongs number's.

There is also no user documentation to speak of on their web site. When I asked about a real tutorial about proper search syntax I was told that there is no need of a tutorial. The built-in Help files are also useless for this.

SEAN0629  Unlike most Bible software programs, Accordance keeps the Bible central. Additional study resources are available, but the Accordance philosophy is "The Bible is central!"

SEAN0629  Also, OakTree (the company that develops Accordance) is extremely responsive to users of Accordance. The User Forum provides a place to interact with other users and the developers. Post a question or comment and one will likely receive a response from one of the developers or even one of the owners of the company. They are also very responsive to requests for new features and modules.

As for documentation, Accordance comes with an extensive help file that contains information on every feature and often step-by-step directions.

Accordance can't be beat!

KABING  I agree with Sean0629. My experience with Oaktree and Accordance has been quite positive.

Yes, the Accordance forum does request that everyone use their real name, and I don't have a problem with that.

Like Sean, I have to say that Accordance does indeed keep the Bible central. While I refer to some of the reference modules on a regular basis, I work primarily with the Biblical text itself, and Accordance is ideal for that.

Oaktree continues to expand the resources available to learn Accordance. There is the built-in help, including an extensive tutorial, several pdf guides (which are slightly out of date but still helpful), a tutorial DVD (whose "chapters" can now be downloaded), a "Beginning in Mark" tutorial, and a new series of webinars, which are recorded and made available for download if you can't make the time of the webinar.

FINROD63  Accordance keeps the Bible text(s) central. Then there are also tools, such as dictionaries or commentaries, that can be opened by triple-clicking on the Bible word or Bible verse reference that you want to know more about. Accordance has full tutorial, that can now be watched on youtube at the channel AccordanceBible. Last but not least, all people of the Accordance staff I have talked to have been very nice.

M. LUTHER  Sorry Macsweep, but it is apparent to any outside observer that you just have an ax to grind because you were denied access to the Oaktree/Accordance user forums. So you come here to post a one star review of the software because of that policy? Don't know why you are so concerned about using your real name in that forum, but it is easy to see your "review" really isn't.

BORDERLANDCROSS  1. Mac only!

2. Modular system allows you to get the program and us it without a huge investment and then add to it as needed.

3. Offers a ton of good modules and biblical texts.

4. GUI is sleek, well thought out and intuitve with tabbed windows and highly configurable text display.

5. User created notes and reference tools allow you to take notes in the program as well as add notes from others. The notes immediately become searchable and have a built in spell check.

6. The search function has so many options and variables you can find anything within a text in english, greek, hebrew etc... and fast.

7. Contextual menus and key command shortcuts speed up workflow.

8. 3-d interactive map is incredible and when integrated with the PhotoGuide module is the next best thing to going to Israel.

9. Many different ways to do the same function for ease of use.

10. I have been using it for years and the Oaktree team is vigilant to respond to suggestions always making the product better and better. I wish all developers were this good.

Nothing even comes close.

RWEBBER  The folks at OakTree Software have consistently produced cutting edge Bible study software for the Macintosh that is unsurpassed by any package on any platform. I know -- I own copies of Libronix for windows and several other less well-known packages for both platforms. None of them can compare with the flexibility of searches offered, the speed of the package, or the intuitive nature of the user interface. The software engineers have produced a stellar package with the newest offering. The new features of version 7 take Accordance well beyond any other application on the market. The new analysis graphs, slide-show function, search by root, arrange by module, and the highlighting feature expanded to include all modules -- just to list a few new features -- have made the newest version well worth the minimal upgrade fee. If you insist on the best Bible study package available, you really must try this application. While you can get in at entry level for about $39, an adequate package for the serious Bible student will cost at least several hundred dollars. I do hope the folks at OakTree will offer some larger, more inexpensive packages in the future.

PETER GNEMMI  Speaking of Catholic, the nice people at Oak Tree Software have released a Catholic collection. It includes many Catholic Bibles, including Latin Vulgate and the Spanish Navarra Bible, the Catholic Catechism, Vatican I & II, the Summa, Council of Trent, Order of the Mass, and the Code of Canon Law. This is the most comprehensive one-stop shopping for all your Catholic needs available, all wrapped in Accordance GUI goodness. Very cool, indeed!

DOUG EDDY  I have used Accordance for years and am still learning how to use it! It performs so many functions and I would be seriously limited in my work if I did not have it. It is so powerful and the selection of add-on modules cannot be beat.

The staff go out of their way to accomodate, and they regularly update the modules to improve functioning or add new functions. The list of available Bible translations and resources is excellent and the continuity of interface with all modules most helpful.

They are the best I have seen and I highly recommend their software to anyone.

ANONYMOUS  There are a lot of reasons the Catholic Bible should be included.

1. Catholics do not go to hell. Let them work out their relationship with Their Lord and back off.

2. Some books, while I personally disagree with their cannonization, are perfectly valid hostorical documents.

3. The original King James Bible contained the Apocrepha for some 274 years before it was removed. Might be nice to study up on a little bit of that Biblical & Church history,

Seriously man, its no wonder non-christians think we're a bunch of wack job yahoos when we cant find anything better to do than bash each other all the time. Try encouraging someone for a change, you might actually like it.

DAVID LANG  Dear Anonymous,

How carefully have you looked at Accordance?

The Introductory Level of the Library includes the King James apocrypha along with the King James. It also includes your choice of a free Bible unlock, so you can choose a Catholic Bible like the New American Bible or New Jerusalem Bible.

The Standard Level of the Library also includes the Douay-Rheims translation, and your choice of one more unlockable Bible. The Library also includes Catholic works like Aquinas' Summa and Pascal's Pensees.

Finally, we have a separate Catholic Collection CD-ROM which is packed with material of special interest to Catholics. Then there's the Early Church Fathers CD-ROM...

In short, Roman Catholics will find lots of good material available with Accordance.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

David Lang

DAVID LANG  Sorry, just realized that you were probably responding to someone else's previous comments about "heresy," rather than criticizing Accordance for dicriminating against Catholics.

Anyway, we do pride ourselves on making available a broad spectrum of material for biblical studies, written from Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish perspectives. Even someone who regards some of these perspectives as "heretical" ought to appreciate having access to these materials. After all, how can you teach or instruct someone if you don't understand where they're coming from?

Sincerely,

David Lang

ANONYMOUS  when I ask myself "What would jesus use?" I know he would use Accordance. it really is a blessing from the LORD. Jesus probably wouldn't damn all the other programs to hell, but he wouldn't like them as much. and he would definitely use mac. I think we can all agree on that. there's a line of code in the middle of this application with the numbers "777" in order, just like that. it gives me goosebumps how neat this thing is.

NIGHTHAWK54  I can tell you one other thing Jeus would do:

He would ask this company why they publish heresy and a false Gospel by putting out a Catholic version, which is to say another Gospel, of His Holy Word. I think you know what the Word says about anyone bringing you another Gospel, other than the one Paul and others wrote in The New Testament:

Galatians 1:8: (NKJV)

8 But even if we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other Gospel to you than the one we have preached to you, let him be acursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be acursed.

In the strongest terms used anywhere in His word, God tell us His assessment and penalty for those who would take it upon themselves to pervert His holy Word. "..may they be acursed.”

There is one other place in scripture where He warns in similar terms, so there can be no mistake or misunderstanding, how serious He takes tampering with His Word:

Revelation 22: 18-19 (NKJV)

18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Rev. 22:20 (NKJV) He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”

Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

We must truly be mindful of the things of God-and not of men, no matter how well intentioned they might be....

The Catholic Bible and the teachings of Roman Catholicism - are now, and have always been, at odds with the Gospel of Jesus Christ; they are “another gospel”...

ANONYMOUS  first poster again. hi brothers! just wanted you all to know I made up a song about this program, I like it so much. well, I thought I did, but when I started to sing it everyone said "Hey! That's just 'Jesus Loves Me' but with different words. and you're an idiot." so, no song. but you can imagine how neat it would have been.

amen to the heresy comments. I hate heresy like I hate satan. also, satan should never be capitalized, like THE LORD is capitalized. have a blessed day!

ANONYMOUS  The is absolutely the best Bible study software available for the Mac today. I have tried (and still use for some purposes) a number of others, but none can hold a candle to Accordance. It has every function one would possibly need but they manage to keep them all out of the way until you need them. Wonderful design makeover for this version. I also appreciate the wealth of options available, and though they all cost money individually, the fact that licensing must be paid for most bible versions requires this with all bible software. At least this app doesn't require you to buy them all up front, which gives them the option of offering more versions and resources others don't or cant offer. The staff at Oak Tree Software are really responsive and helpful. A great combination!

RON WEBBER  I am a Professor of Biblical Languages and have tried many of the competitors' packages out there on both the Mac and the PC. I have the top of the line Scholar's Package from Logos installed on my office PC, but I continually find myself turning to the Accordance Program on my Mac for my studies. Accordance is elegant, powerful, and simply the best there is. The staff at OakTree Software are professional and friendly. The new pricing structure and contents of the new CDs allow the selection of more specialized and contemporary Bible texts. I'm thankful to have such wonderful tools at my disposal. I would like to see a more reasonable pricing for the modules and I think we have seen OakTree moving in that direction. Good work!! They are currently at version 6.1.1 and it just keeps getting better.

JOSHUA  This upgrade is awesome. The interface improvements are well worth the upgrade alone, but the other offerings stand on their own. Being able to Tab windows together has been very nice, and the improvements to the overall layout are not small. Importing User Tools from HTML is amazing, and hopefully this will be expanded on in further releases.

Without the clutter and clunkyness of the 5 series, it feels polished now. They've built the architecture and customer support for a very beautiful future for this product. Hopefully they can expand into the PC market more with the emulator and ramp up the production.

DOUG  I have used Accordance for years and am impressed that they continue to improve the interface! At first it can be rather daunting because it is so powerful, but it is well worth purchase - the modular nature of the programs keeps it budget wise. It is a fantastic program and the additional research material you can purchase for it has given me a massive library just a keystroke away. Also, the staff there is terrific.
