JULIEW  I attempted to fix timecode breaks using MPEG Streamclip and then did a "Save As" but the resulting file still had the same timecode breaks when I checked the new file in MPEG Streamclip.

I then used vcdgear to separate the MPEG file into parts where the timecode breaks occurred. I also selected the -fix option to "fix broken mpeg blocks". The resultant individual files showed no timecode breaks in MPEG Streamclip. Nor did the re-joined version which I had created using mpgtx. However, every file along the way - the original, the separate clips and the rejoined file are reported as having tons of video errors in MPEG Streamclip. The final rejoined file also listed multiple data breaks - presumably where the separate files were joined together again by mpgtx.

What am I missing here? Are these programs incapable of actually fixing an mpeg file or are the errors which are being reported erroneous?

Incidentally, the original file would not play through to the full length of the video in QuickTime player. The indiviudal pieces and the rejoined file do play all the way through fine in QuickTime and all of the files play completely in mPlayer although in the original the playback window mysteriously moves itself (apparently at each timecode break.)

RUSSELL  I needed to backup a music video of mine so that the VCD wouldn't become scratched over time with a lot a usage. What the VCDGearX 1.76 program allowed me to do was to convert what I had over to a QT format and now I can watch my music off of the hard drive thus saving any wear on my VCD. This program is very easy and quite simple to use, and works very well! Great job! Two thumbs up!

VISOR  After trying many different options this program works a treat!. Converts a standard .bin to .mpg in around 35 seconds on my 15" TiBook.

T. HUDSON  After spending 20+ hours locating and downloading an important video archive, only to discover that it was a .nrg file, I thought I was hosed. Tried another tool that is suppose to decode them on Mac... no dice, or at least nothing usable. Downloaded VCDGearX 1.0 and presto! Four fully usable files (698 MBs of MPEGs) decoded and converted in less than 2 minutes. Only thing I'd like to see in this tool is ability to convert .AVI's or .MOV's to MPEGs (I tried and got an error; it is looking for a viable MPEG-2 stream that my test vids do not possess) or to convert MPEGs to dumuxed QuickTime movies. But, for my current use, this is great!

ANONYMOUS  When I convert movies to mpeg 1 for use with toast the outcome is not what I hope for. The output movies work fine on my computer, but when burnt on a VCD there is a strange beeping in the background that kind of beeps to the beat of whatever I had burnt. Also the video expreieces annoying slow downs...besides all that this app is half decent.
