BUZZWORM  I used to recommend this software to my Mac clients, but found soon realized it wouldn't launch all the time. Spending time troubleshooting a $7 program wasn't worth it and no free updates has made me runaway. Why bother when you can get YouControl for free? http://bit.ly/1PERj0

TIMHERE  Have used this app for YEARS. But to have to pay for what is essentially a minor update - compatibility with Snow Leopard - seems incredibly tight. I'll go elsewhere.

JON555  This developer charges for what is essentially bug fixes. There have been no notable changes since 2005. The app itself isn't bad, but for a $7 menu bar with a few buttons, you'd expect more. At least update the UI/buttons to something more modern. Don't let the 4 and a half star rating fool you, as most of those high ratings are from 2005.

MAX KAMIR  I agree with GuillaumeK. I just donloaded the app and regret that I didn't keep the old one. There is nothing new, the old version I had worked well.

You dbl click on the icon and it crashes the older version with no warning about licencing and you can't recover the old one...

Actually, I have it on Time Machine...

KOSOVAR1  This 4 1/2 star overall rating for Synergy is such complete BS! I paid for a couple of Synergy upgrades throughout the Tiger years and all I ever got from it was frustration and a lot of wasted time. It only worked between boots if you loaded it manually. Now version 4 has been released and it ACTUALLY WORKS this time. Problem is, you're forced to buy it yet again if you want to use it with Snow Leopard. Who can say that it won't break again in a few weeks if you buy it and the developer's record of fixing the non-loading bug is abysmal. Plus, like the other commenter pointed out, there have been practically no significant feature additions. SO, Wincent has this little operation going on, forcing people to buy Synergy over and over again, if they want to keep it working, except that, in my experience, it almost never worked and this lazy developer isn't even decent enough to offer a discounted upgrade price for users who paid for the aggravation of twinking and testing various tricks to coax the previous versions to perform as advertised. Besides these major flaws, Synergy is a great concept, and very useful if only it were a reliable utility and the developer would treat previous paying customers right.

EDIFIED  Synergy is a great app with a developer that expects a bit much of customers. I'm a little rebuffed at having to pay for it again since there's no new functionality that I'm aware of since version 3. Sure there's been lots of rewriting and refactoring on your end but where is the cash value for us your customers when it looks like just bug fixes and implementation updates.

The last time [Feature] appeared in the official version history is November 2006.

What you're providing now is essentially a compatibility update from our perspective. At the very least I think you could offer registered users (I registered 19 Feb 2006) a discounted upgrade price (like $2). Or else provide some motivation like new features or a development roadmap.

Buy-it-again to stay compatible doesn't feel nice.

MEEGO  Ok that's it.

I'm done with Synergy. I bought my license back in 2005.

First there was this new Synergy Advance thing. It was alpha software sold 10$. It offered very little more than what was already in Synergy Classic, but with bugs. It hasn't been updated since 2007. Some folks bought it, just ask them how they feel about this... Actually you can still buy licenses on Wincent's website.. (sic)

Then there were the first Leopard years, with OS X updates breaking every other Synergy Classic version. The app would crash, covers would not load. It was a mess. It took months before we had a working Leopard-optimized (read: garbage-collector enabled) version.

So we were paying either for alpha, or poorly maintained software. But Synergy Classic was still good enough and we liked it.

And now we cannot get plain regular support for our then supposedly unlimited licenses bought before 2006? OK it has been five years, but Obj2.0 and garbage collection aren't exactly features. Synergy has not got any new feature for years (check version history, it's all bug fixes and manic updates to make software requirements ever more drastic. Does an iTunes controller really need 10.6 to run properly..?) All we're asking for is continued support.

Anyone has a link to 3.5.5a? I shouldn't have overwritten mine..

ZOFO  So far so good with 10.6. I have a subscription from 2006 and would need to upgrade as well.... but feeling quite frustrated about it's "non working" since that time.

For the time being I'm just running it in "trial mode" and see how good this really is.

He COULD AT LEAST MAKE THE alpha/betas FREE and then charge IF and WHEN Synergy will be stable AND fully functional

KOSOVAR1  Synergy. Hands down one of the worst. I am so fed up with this POS! Years after buying this, it never really was stable. The problem was it rarely ever booted on its own. Finally, I just recently tried beta 3.5a and it loaded in system Preferences on it's own. First it worked reliably in 2 years! Then I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Stopped working again!!!!!!!!!!! After much research in Google, someone mentioned a Synergy 3.5b beta that was compatible, but of course, you can't find it on the Synergy website. Hey, someone aught to take the developer behind the woodshed and teach him the virtue of taking someones money and then causing all this grief. I don't care if it cost 50 cents. I don't care if other people say it works great for them. (Makes me wonder about their motives and who wrote those.) Anyway, there's a principle involved here and it's to learn to write software that works and don't sell crap that doesn't!

PLUG4  I've been a registered owner for years and I have to say, Synergy is hands down one of the finest add-ons. Its the first thing I install on my machine if I have to wipe it. Can't work without it anymore. With each version of iTunes I'm surprised Apple hasn't bought wincent out and included it. Despite the complaints I've read - I can say I've never had a significant problem with any version. I'm typically too lazy to write reviews, but this is one app that deserves it.

KOSOVAR1  Idiotic quote of the month: "Why it doesn't work for you I obviously can't explain, but putting the blame on the developer is logically unsound." Curious, the slew of comments about how "I installed Synergy and it worked for me." Blah, blah... Anyway, I should say that I installed the last two betas of Synergy 3.5 and my early problems with Synergy not loading between system boots seem to have been fixed. I'm sorry it took almost two years to be able to use Synergy again after I paid for it and after prodding the developer to fix it.

According to the aforementioned Spock wannabe, I won't be allowed to give any credit for that improvement to the developer because it's "logically unsound" to suppose any link between the performance of software and the developer.

VRH  Wow -- it's so nice to have this application working again! It was dead in the water for *so* long (some kind of AppleScript bug??) that I gave up on it and settled for "TotalTunes Control" as an alternative. But nothing in the field compares to this app for its intended purpose. The settings interface is clear and uncluttered and I love the visual feedback options.

One gripe I have is that it doesn't use the album artwork already in iTunes, but instead it requires an Internet connection for downloading its own set of album artwork. This is just a waste of resources in almost every way. At least I hope the developer will give an option to use existing artwork. That would seem a lot more efficient.

A feature I'd like to see added is Growl integration. While I really like the developer's own version of notification eye candy, it would be nice to have the option to use Growl.

NORAA  You actually can use Growl notifications with Synergy! You have to set it up within the Growl Preference Pane and not the Synergy Pane. Simply enable Synergy (if it is already enabled, un-enable it and then re-enable it) within Growl and setup how you want it to work (where to display on screen, style, etc.) Also, within the Synergy Pref Pane disable "Display floater when iTunes track changes" under the General Tab. If you don't do that, then both the Growl notifications and Synergy's own notifications will display.

EASER  I'm not a programmer, so I could be talking idiocy here. But could the developer opt to make this an application rather than a preference pane? Would that overcome the problems he's having with the restart issue? I know it might take a substantial rewrite, but given the bad press he's getting for what is otherwise a really good product, maybe it would be worth it. I'm only trying to help here.

KOSOVAR1  No friggin' way! I was overly optimistic. The latest release does not resolve this bug that stops Synergy from loading between restarts. The developer shouldn't receive a penny for this failed product, at least until this bug has been fixed. The problem of Synergy failing to start up between boots has persevered for the past half dozen or more updates and for nearly two years. The developer really should drag his/her sorry buttocks onto the MacUpdate forum and explain why this problem has been ignored or to simply admit that (s)he can't fix it. No, it's easier just to ignore it and to continue to accept money for junk. Trouble is, people lose faith in how the system works and other, more diligent or skilled developers stop getting their hard-earned pay.

KOSOVAR1  Hey Shock J, have you read my posts? I've worked on this problem for over a year. It has become a sort of hobby for me. Nothing works. The problem is duplicated on different machines with different configurations, including a pristine installation of OSX 10.5.6 when I bought my new iMac a few months ago, so I am not "ranting" without justification. To the developer who just chimed in, I'm sorry this is the best solution you can come up with. I considered the "stale" startup item possibility as the most simplistic possibility for error and I began to resolve that possibility from Day 1. I always made sure the startup items were newly created ones with each re-installation. Might I also remind both of you that I am not alone with this problem.

Not all developers have the time to check the posts here, emailing directly is far more effective.

Hell, I have it installed on my G4 Cube! I have never had a problem with Synergy launching during start-up for me. And from what I'm hearing from most users is that they haven't had a problem either. So if the majority of users don't have start-up issues, I find it difficult to come to the conclusion that the product is defective. I find it much easier to come to the conclusion that the product is fine and your experiences are anomalous. Why it doesn't work for you I obviously can't explain, but putting the blame on the developer is logically unsound. GORDON142  I've been using this application for years, but last month finally switched to one if its competitors. Development for this programme seems to have badly lagged, unfortunately. It's not even new features I'm concerned about — I was OK with the existing feature set — it's the fact that the application is chronically unstable. At least once a Day it either quits or freezes. I'd gotten so used to restarting it periodically that I hadn't occurred to me that this behaviour wasn't typical for an iTunes controller. Well, my new controller hasn't crashed once, and it never freezes or delays when switching tracks. It's great.

I've given this app positive reviews in the past, but I can't recommend it any longer unless something serious is done to improve stability.

KIDCLAM  Since the update with the artwork now displayable, I am very happy with Synergy.

Now I don't have to go back to iTunes everytime to change the rating, check the item and also look at the album display. I have many singles which don't have album names, so I can basically cut that out from showing on the floater and it's all good. I also can control the colume, mute etc with keyboard commands. This is very useful since I play my itunes though airtunes to my pro hifi. With one click I can switch to mute or lower the volume without changing apps.

Apart from the normal expectated functions, I still think that it should be a seemless intergration and that starting up at login should be essential. It just doesn't seem that hard to do since every other shareware I use is running OK with this function.

So to the Synergy programmers, please fix this to make it a perfect workable shareware that people would gladly pay for. If you want your existing customer base not to jump ship, then do something about it soon! You missed on a 5 for Features.

Not sure if they fixed the problem where Synergy just closes itself without you knowing. I haven't tested this long enough to review so I will rate the Stability to be 3 still. Thanks.

I guess the developer has made as much money off this as (s)he wants, because there have been no fixes or communications forthcoming: not a word, nothing. I am sorry I wasted money on this!

KINGADROCK  Synergy used to be the best iTunes controller available. I'm a registered user and have used it for years. Synergy has really taken a turn for the worse. It's not launching properly, it crashes, and it's slow to respond. I got so frustrated that I switched to a competing product. I'll keep an eye on Synergy with hopes it returns to the quality app I once knew.

MEEGO  "About the crashing (or not crashing), I can assure you that it's really a completely separate issue. It's a known bug in Leopard's NSAppleScript running under Garbage Collection. It's effectively random, and sooner or later it will crash... until Apple fixes the bug. I've been pretty lucky with this and I only see a crash every few days, but I know others see them all the time: luck of the draw, it would seem.

I'm going to put together a couple of new releases which incorporate this fix for the artwork issue:

* 3.5a7: a new build of the alpha series, which will still unfortunately suffer from Apple's NSAppleScript bug.

* 3.2.1: a new build of the stable 3.2 series, which won't be affected by the NSAppleScript issue (never has been, never will be) because it doesn't use Leopard's Garbage Collection.

I'll try to get those out tomorrow."

Quoted from http://rails.wincent.com/issues/668

So no more artwork issues!

KIDCLAM  I won't be using Synergy for now (I paid) since it opens up my iTunes way automatically.. faster than my external hard disc. It was a "!" on all my songs since it has lost connection the the library. Yeah I can still play the songs once my external is up, but when I have"shuffle" on my playlist, it doesn't play because it iTunes still thinks the songs are missing... I also use the new keyboard with the function keys for play/pause etc. and can function directly to iTunes on any software I am currently working on. So Synergy is basically not needed anymore. PLEASE FIX THIS OPEN ITUNES ON START UP... AND ALSO PREVIEW PICS OF MY ALBUMS ON THE FLOATER... NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

GGORE  I'm not happy with the redesign of Synergy. The old method of Synergy being a preference pane was much simpler, it just loadeded when OS X booted and was in the toolbar when you launched iTunes. Now with Synergy being a regular application, if you set the preferences to launch Synergy at login, it also launches iTunes at login but doesn't bring up the iTunes window. You have to manually bring up the iTunes window and close the application if you aren't wanting to listen to music. I'm going back to the old preference pane version of Synergy.

STEVE SEXTON  I've been using Synergy (what is now called the Classic version) for awhile now, since version 1.7 or so I think - ever since the Konfabulator iTunes widget quit working. I'm very pleased. For a small amount of money you're getting a pretty useful iTunes control and a developer that is very responsive with frequent updates (second only to Turly's FinderPop).

2.1 is the only time I've had any trouble at all, it looks like the wincent.com server crashed and is being rebuilt (it's partially restored atm, download section still down). No big deal, given Wincent's track record I don't expect any problems. According to the update notice its only a minor maintenance release from 2.0, fixing some bug with the Dock under Tiger that I've never seen anyway.

But now there is a seperation on both sides of the synergy menu buttons. I don't really know how else to describe it. I would post a screen shot but I don't think I can do that here. ERIK  I've paid for both Synergy and Synergy Advance and more often than not, I've been feeling sorta ripped off. Both of them provide a lot of the same functionality, so it seems odd to have both, especially since they run as separate processes that don't seem to be talking to each other at all. For instance, if you turn on the Growl notifications with one program, you have to manually shut them off on the other. In other words, the two programs seem to be stepping on each other's toes. Add to this the long wait between updates (even when it's really needed) and the fact that the server seems to go down for a couple days at a time when an update IS posted, and I'm not super impressed. I love the functionality of this program, I love what it COULD do, but I have so far been disappointed more often than not.

JENNIFER (BURAN)  Minor request for next version: When iTunes is not running, have Synergy place a "Launch iTunes" menu item prominently in the main app menu rather than placing it in a submenu where it resides now. A minor gotcha, but I think a worthy fix. Other than that, no real gripes; I've been a paid user ever since ... version 1.0 or something like that, and I can honestly say I'm happy with the app. Fairly priced, and it's a very minor feature but a worthy one. NICK  Here's my suggestion TO THE DEVELOPER to make it even better: He should add an option that would force the Synergy icon in the menubar to always position itself as the left-most menu bar item. That way, it would always serve as a visual divider between the menu bar icons to the right and the menu bar commands to the left. It's a great visual effect if one selects the "Tabbed" or "Brushed" button styles and the Mac OS's brushed metal appearance option is chosen. The Synergy button in the menubar keeps to the left for awhile, but when I logout/login again, it moves a couple of places to the right on the menubar with my StickyBrain and Pod2Go icons, taking the leftmost positions.

Except for this little gripe and the fact that Synergy can sometimes be sluggish to repond on my 1.5 Mhz Aluminum PowerBook (OSX 10.3.9), I think it's a great addition to the GUI for what I paid for it.

JCTULL  Growl support is a major feature that has been added. I like this app, but hope that the shift to classic v. advance does not create a mandatory upgrade fee. The website is ambiguous regarding upgrade cost for current licensees when the 'advance' version is completed. If it is not steeply discounted, I will probably shift to one of the open source alternatives that seem to be nearly identical in features, but were unavailable a year ago.

I have owned it for (I believe) almost a year now, and there have been very few real features added to it. The only one I can honestly think of is new buttons, and maybe a couple very minor changes to the look of it. They also re-added the album art look up system, but for someone like me who has all the album art for every song they own, that doesn't really matter at all and sometimes it will put up the wrong album art on songs I own that don't have any.

With more effort by the creators this application could be amazing, but until then it is just a great small application that doesn't truely change from one version to the next. If they take it to the next level with the introduction of Synergy Advanced I know I will be very proud to purchase it.

This is the only real reason why anything got marked down, and for troubles in the past of instability, which continues to get better version to version.

GRAMAGE  Just a suggestion: It would be nice if Synergy was able to make a global hotkey for ejecting a mounted iPod (assuming iTunes isn't busy updating it). It would be very convinient to be able to hit a few key in whatever aplication and presto the iPod is ejected. Having to go into iTunes to do it is a bit tedious, and dragging it to the trash just feels wrong.. ;D

JACK M.H. LIN  I am wondering if Wincent, the developer of Synergy, could see this message. I've finished the Traditional Chinese localization of Synergy, but the emails I sent him were returned many times. I also left a message via the message form of the official webpage. Hope to hear from the developer soon, and hope we can get this localization task done! Thanks a lot.

ANONYMOUS  I've been using Synergy for a very long time, and all I can say is it's been the one app I go completely crazy without. It just rocks, plain and simple. Don't use iTunes without it.

ANONYMOUS  Excellent compliment to iTunes, the best little app I ever bought for the price, and the regular updates go without hassle.

The downloading of the Album covers for the current song pop-up are very accurately found. I'm glad they don't actually get placed into iTunes itself as I scan and add my covers in manually. Synergy then creates a little JPEG in the Application Support folder, very handy as a backup in case I was to ever lose my current folder with all those manually scanned images in ;)

All in all great app and the best $5 I ever spent.

Although I wish there was a way to not download from Amazon at all and look at album art from iTunes first. If Synergy says that iTunes doesn't have it...leave it alone. I don't want .jpg files downloaded from Amazon.

NICOLAS  One of the best mini apps I ever bought. Not just that it's a lot of fun to work with, it's so cool to get useful updates every now and then. The developer really makes you feel that he cares about you - big thumb up!

So let's talk a little bit about the application itself: The main reason I use it are the key shortcuts and the floating window - very nice to look at. Also very nice that it loads pictures from Amazon. There are a few things still missing: Easy import of downloaded pictures to iTunes, more eye candy. But I believe that we will see this some day in Synergy or Synergy advance.

What more to say? "The best 5 bucks I ever spend." :-D

ANONYMOUS  I've been using this for about a year now (I think..) and I love it! There is a few things that are lacking though...

1. The ability to play your "ALL" option from the menubar.

2. I wish there was a script or something included in the app that would transfer all the album covers to itunes so you wouldn't have to use a different app to get covers for your library.

3. Could be nice to scale down the black box that surrounds the floater... seems like there is a little wasted space around it.

4. I do get the occasional spinning ball when mousing over the menubar controller.. seems to freeze up iTunes once every blue moon.

Other than those.. I think it's perfect! Well worth the money. In fact.. I've gotten like 10 friends buy it!

SPEEDING_ANT  Its a great app. Works well, and with each update it keeps on getting better. Its smooth, and looks cool, and above all, it does the job.

Developer... to make this app perfect it would be cool if you got the floater to have all sorts of eye candy, the bevel effect is getting a bit dull. Make it slide up from the bottom or top (whichever is closest to the floater) and maybe do some cool themes or something for it. Also, the mini controler up the top is amazing, but it needs to have a bit where you can select artists to play, or genres or something. Not everyone has playlists!

Other than those improvements, this (i beleive) is the best iTunes addition you can buy. Keep up the awesome work

Yours

I'm running 10.2.6, itunes 4.7, g3 tower w/ g4/733 upgrade, 320mb.

JIMW  I tend to be as or more suspicious of You Control than the previous commentator. While I have no evidence of this, I personally would not put it past them to only offer their product free so long as it takes to drive the other products out of existence, then to start charging a significant fee for it. Nevertheless I have to say it is a good product, fulfills my needs, and one can't argue with the price - for now.

If this becomes I trend - first ITunes controllers, then clock replacements, etc. so that they can dominate the market in menu utilities and squeeze out other shareware I might even suggest later that the shareware developers get together and temporary offer their items for free to try and force You Control into bankruptcy. Then the shareware companies can start charging a reasonable fee for their products again. I support free enterprise and fair competition, but not predatory marketing.

There is a place for both commercial software and shareware and users need to have a choice. Fair competition is one of the driving forces of technology advancement.

Concerning the registration issue, and I too am very concerned, What I did, is set up a "temporary" e-mail address, which you can do via a number of web sites, such as Yahoo, Excite, HotMail, etc. for free as most expire if you don't use them regularly, for You Control registration, got my number and intend to let the address expire. If you are concerned, I suggest you might consider doing the same with all other requested info being bogus.

LEX LUTHOR  This app apart from a half-attempt by 'Butler' was a clear winner in the iTunes notifier category since the loss of PTH. But the insanely mad 'You Soft's'PTH machine

has bounced back into the ring with the imaginatively named 'iControl iTunes'

You can select any artist or song from the menubar ( not just playlists) and get an album cover pic from the file in-menu. Plus 'iControl iTunes' has the ability to show album cover art from the files in-bedded cover in a variety of sizes and shows song info in a much more pleasing style, and it's free. well I say free, really you have register and then have an internet connection and let 'you soft' take what ever info they want back to the app's/you soft's server. ( without that little 'eccentricity/spyware' it won't register/ work - for free)

Synergy does have the edge with 'buttons styling' and iControl's buttons are hard coded in, so you can't swap/hack a more stylish set into it. Synergy leaves a folder of 'TIFFs' named 'album covers' in your library/application support folder which can begin to add up in file size as it plays and saves through your music collection, iControl does not suffer from this.

wincent.org as far as I can tell, gives you your registration code and his personal interest in you stops there. If there was a good enough reason to support Synergy over 'You Soft's' effort this would be it.

Given a code or brought - if it appears all over the net - the developer can remove it from registering the app and ban the user but 'You Soft's approach is nearing an infringement on our civil liberties and is very suspicious. If you want the free alternative and it is very well thought out, just be aware you have no idea what info is being taken from your computer and how it will be used.

If Synergy can incorporate the more robust menu options ( iControl iTunes does have that functionality completely covered and has almost all the info you could possibly need - including even a ticker) plus steal/borrow iControl's 'floater' styling it would be worth the very low price the developer is asking and we could all bin the overly-paranoid 'You Soft's' spyware filled application.

ANONYMOUS  Much faster response time than PTHiTunesNotifier, Butler, or SizzlingKeys. The floater can sometimes take a long time to fade, however.

Since Butler can now recognize when the song in an iTunes streaming station changes, and show its floater automatically, Synergy ought to implement this in its next revision. (the IT CAN BE DONE! principle) Synergy can recognize the tracks and add them to the 'recently played' menu... sometimes.

One annoyance: why does the Album Covers folder continuously fill up even when the artwork is in the song files themselves?

ALEXF  As others have said, worth the 5 Euros. The floater is not only pleasant and smoothly animated, but it also saves space; you don't have to keep iTunes open to see what songs you're playing.

The real benefit to this program is the hotkeys though. When the demo version expired, I kept using the prev/next hotkeys out of habit. They just become the only interaction with iTunes you need.

The album cover feature was what first attracted me to Synergy, but it's disabled per Amazon's request. That's too bad, but it still reads whatever cover you have set in iTunes, so it's bearable.

Areas that I'd like to see improved are more font and colour customization and more floater effects beyond the fade in/out. PTH had some great effects! The author says he's working on something called Synergy Advance which will implement many more features, so I hope these are some of them.

I bought Synergy even knowing that the Advance version will be out. I hope he has an upgrade license available for Advance!

BURAN  At $5 it didn't take me long to decide it was worth it. However, the album art loading feature doesn't currently work (known issue, see the site) so it doesn't quite make sense for the software to default to having it turned on. The application icon used in the floater window is horridly ugly, though -- it could use some more polish, or the "flat" 2D version should be used.

Agreed that a "launch iTunes hidden" feature would be very nice.

BIGBADVOO  Indespensible software- such a good price for how often I use it. It's one of the few programs I can justify buying. Pretty slow with the floater on my iBook 300, but I'm used to waiting. Especially cool is being able to switch playlists without bringing iTunes to the front. Some people gripe that the artwork is saved externally from the music files in ~/Library/App Support/Synergy/Album Covers, and in uncompressed TIFF format. 10 albums play and soon you've lost a MB from your HD. Thankfully it accepts it when you alias that Album Covers folder to an external drive to save your internal drive. I keep the covers right next to my music folder on my external drive, and all is well again. I agree with previous reviewers that PHiTunesNotifier does a little better job of customization with fonts, colors, fading, and transparencies of the floater, but I still prefer Synergy's playlist control, previous tracks listing, and artwork cataloging.

It's very nicely written with lots of options and certainly worth $5. I love the floater animation, it's very slick. I do wish the floater's layout was more customizable (in PTHiTN, you can select fonts and spacing and all sorts of things) and that the buttons in the menu bar had more of a margin on the outer edges (Synergy seems squished when placed between other menu bar items). If only Synergy and PTHiTN could be combined into one app!

MAHIE  Really an excellent little product, at an unbeatable price. It sits quietly in the menu bar and provides those iTunes commands you most frequently use - pause/stop, track forward and track back. A right click on any of those buttons allows to you to access your playlists, or buy that album from amazon. However, with extremely large music libraries or numerous playlists, response time is a little slow when choosing a playlist - more than a couple of seconds even on my 700mhz ibook with 684 mb of sdram. I would also advise that you keep the list of recently played tracks small. One last quibble - if your menu bar is already cluttered (mine shows power info, scripts, time, duration of internet connection...) and your monitor is small, the synergy menu may be hidden. Click to finder or desktop to restore it.

MOUNTY654  Brillaint application, makes iTunes even easier to control and the option which allows you to see the songs' album covers is a great little aesthetic improvement on what iTunes has to offer. This application was reccomended by MacWorld UK and you can see why!

GRAVITON  This app is great. Only $5 too. A price I think a lot of shareware should be (but isnt).

Well done.

MR. X  this update is GREAT!

It adds the 2 major things I wanted: playlist and control-click to bring the menu instead of a separate menubar icon. And the new buttons are pretty cool too :)

THINK5577  Great!!! Worth the money. Exactly what I was looking for. Great for people with dual screens like me. I dont have to switch to other screen just to change a song.

One little thing though. Clicking on the Playlist in the Global Menu, it doesnt alphabetize your playlists. Maybe I over looked something.

Cant wait for whats next in future versions. Keep up the good work.

ANONYMOUS  I basicly have 3 things in my menubar: Synergy, Check Off, and the iChat thingy. I couldn't live without any of them now! The $5 for Synergy and the $5 for Check Off (by that Ricci Adams fellow) were the best $10 I've ever spent! Synergy r0x0rs the world!

Also, the developer updates Synergy all the time. I've talked to him too. Real cool guy.

NEWBURY COMICS SUCKS  i really like this app but i wish i could choose keep the info displayed like how pthitunes does...thats the only drawback in my opinion.

it also seems to speed up the transition between choosing another song when you have a huge playlist ALOT...no more spinning beach ball believe it or not...i actually throw over 300 gigs in itunes as a library and ive found that a playlist over 30 days long is a bit of a hangup for it...mines over 100 days long....i was waiting 20+ seconds sometimes for songs to change...now its instant...so far its the only thing that does actually speed up itunes..well worth it if you have a huge playlist like me...

i want to rate this a 5 star app but that little tiny option i want wont let me...it just seems like an overlooked feature...add this little thing and its definitly a 5 star app...

JIMBOHC  Excellent app that I'm surprised Apple hasn't snapped up for a decent price! Now if the author can add volume control into the app it would be just about perfect!

MARK  This is great - there is nothing worse than scrambling to change a tune that may not be loved as much as it do by my co-workers. great for some of Tools harder songs, also Twisted Sister seems to raise a few frowns.

I also like the way the track comes up on your screen when a new song comes on.

Who would have thought that pull down menus would ever be too much trouble!

JOEL MUELLER  I like that it's not another drop-down menu controller for iTunes, but the actual controls are placed directly in the menu bar. However, if you have a ton of Menu Items already (got MUMenu up there right!!?), it may take up too much space.

For the next release it would be nice to have the buttons go down or get highlighted around their outside so you know that it recognized that you clicked on the control.
