The Texas-sized spread of tabs almost made me forget how ugly the app's icon is. Or maybe it was the ugly icon that nearly distracted me from the GUI atrocities. This app works well enough, but it has the mangiest coat I've ever seen.
LOL, $30 for an app that controls fan speed! There are several free apps that control fan speed, they're not as pretty but they will do the job. I've updated my Mac Mini with a 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo and a Seagate Momentus 7200 HD, and the freeware "Fan Control" works flawlessly.
Another option for anyone who really wants to spend thirty bucks is to buy an external HD case.
Bean used to be the most beautiful word processor available for Mac OS X; it struck the perfect balance between a minimalist design and accessable, clearly defined icons and widgets.
Now it's butt-ugly. The toolbar is full of wasted gray area. The icons are ultra-low contrast in a different shade of gray. The ruler icons and widgets are the old legible design, which only serves to make the toolbar look even more pathetic. Then the page has some weird resizing inside the resizable Bean window in what is an extremely confusing and poorly implemented GUI. Bean went from a polished light word processor to something that looks like Cheetah-era abandonware.
I really appreciate the developer donating his time to this freeware app, and I'm sticking with it for now. But please, for the love of all that is pure and beautiful in OS X, FIX THIS AWFUL NEW GUI.
Looks great, but why does the developer have so little confidence in his product? No free trial, no way to test the app before paying for it. Is the developer afraid nobody will buy it once they try it?
Downloaded this to try it out. Launched it, opened preferences to check things out. Closed preferences. Noticed Mini's fan had kicked into high speed. Opened Activity Monitor and saw that sArchiver's CPU usage was over 90%...while doing NOTHING.
I repeated this a few times to be sure, then plunked sArchiver in the trash and deleted with extreme prejudice.

Slow and ponderous on a 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo Mini. Integrated ads nag me all the time.
It's been years since I tried Reader, so I thought I'd give it another chance. What a stupid waste of time. Skim operates on such a higher plane, if Adobe developers care, they must be embarrased by Reader's profound inferiority.
It did open the few PDFs I tried, and it didn't crash, so I suppose it's not entirely worthless.
