Little Snitch has always worked for me. But of course I probably would not know whether it had blocked something bad or not. Cost, number of updates etc is not a factor to balance against considerable peace of mind.
I have been using SpamSweep for a couple of years and it works fine for me. I normally receive about a dozen emails a day.
Good and bad mail is indicated for you to correct the filtering, which improves with time. After about a month, I hardly see any SPAM. I click on Review Messages once a week to make sure there are no mistakes, but so far, I have not found any.
At first I could not get the iPlayer Downloader to do anything, but after some discussion with the developer, it now performs like a charm. I was impressed that he would take so much effort to get it working for me. Thanks for a useful tool.
My HP all-in-one 1610 worked fine with Tiger and even the included writing recognition worked OK too. But nothing would work with Leopard. I downloaded version 9.7, which worked but was much slower and the writing recognition did not work at all. I then downloaded version 9.7.1 which did nothing but crash or freeze.
It is sad that a big company that produces good hardware can't be bothered to keep its software up to date. Now I shall have to buy another printer; a Cannon this time.
I've used this for years and just can't do without it. Yes it can be a little slow, but with so many features I can accept a few drawbacks. User names, passwords addresses, etc., all at a click of the mouse. What more do you need?
Now there is the auto spelling, with the Mac voice 'Whisper' to tell you when you've got it wrong and key clicks for odd words.
At 0830 this morning I downloaded the latest beta in less than a minute. After installation I ran ALL the cleaning routines. My computer still runs, I still have all my files and all my fonts. Am I surprised? Of course not, this has always been great software and this beta is no different.
I eventually managed to install version 1.3.2, but wished I hadn't!
None of the apps that used Growl, TypeIt4Me, Skype and TechTool Pro would launch and threw up a window full of data as to why.
Running uninstall failed to solve the problem, so I removed all the Growl items with Find Any File. Next I downloaded and installed the three apps again and all is working - except for Growl which I will never install again.
