Micro$oft has gone too far in their abuse of Apple users! This Skype version now has a Skype Home tabs that shows upon startup and contains and ad and bullshit for Facebook. I subscribe to Skype and now they shove advertising down my throat. No doubt renewal time for my subscription will show a substantial price increase.
They refuse to provide canadian area codes and blame it on canadian authorities - not so. PamFax uses Skype and provides area codes for canadians.
It's back to the previous version for me. I hate the interface but it works. To hell with ads.
PS Macbond works for Micro$oft
Had to revert to v2.8 as I was unable to make any outgoing call to a telephone. People were able to reach me. The UI is, as many people are saying, terrible. It takes time to differentiate between Skype addresses and telephone numbers for the same person.
Absolutely unbelievable. What could they possibly have done to this thing to justify dinging customers for another cent, let-alone eighty bucks. I said goodbye a number of versions back but can't help but comment on these people's utter audacity. If you don't have compression software and want something to really compress files, fine ... but maybe something much cheaper will do well enough. If you already have it, don't pay the annual tax. They can't justify the price.
Plugin still does not work in Safari (64 bit mode). The error message when using 64 bit still has not been changed to something useful. To use the plugin with the latest Safari in Snow Leopard you quit Safari, go to the app itself and Get Info then select the checkbox "Open in 32-bit mode". Of course you are losing the benefit of Safari in 64-bit mode.
The updater will take minutes to carefully examine all your hard drive contents and then refuse to find the M$ Office folder if it is NOT inside the applications folder provided by the OS X installation. If it is in any other folder, even inside a folder in the Applications folder, it will not find it. What is the "installer" doing, looking at all the hard drive contents?
I hesitate to say Microsoft is spying or installing spyware. Perhaps it's just their well-known inability to program for the Macintosh environment.
Reader 10 doesn't handle fonts well at all. Opening a well-made pdf file (e.g. "Property List Programming Guide" from Apple) has the text looking like a ransom note made from cutout letters. The pdf shows perfectly in Reader 9. The Reader X view of the pdf is difficult to read. I'm junking Reader X and waiting for Adobe to do what they should have done before releasing this version.
Don't use this build!
Selecting "view for more information" in a placemark will open a browser window right in Google Earth BUT after doing this, clicking "back to Google Earth" consistenty causes a spectacular crash.
Beta seems to install but BOINC Manager gives error message:
BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC. (Error code -1037)
uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't fix it.
