This looks like a decent app for storing logins and other data. It is very flexible in its data entry, in that it allows for customization of the fields for each record, so you are not limited by predefined fields. However, its usefulness as a password manager is somewhat limited by its inability to actually fill in the login info into a browser form - if you want webpage autofill capability the you must manually export your records to the MacOS Keychain - and then this only works for Safari, not other browsers. (1Password and LastPass can do browser autofill for most browsers natively).
The app has great features for managing categories and records, both individually and in bulk and its import and export tool is extremely flexible.
The app claims to make use of 'up to 448 bit Blowfish encryption', however the developer will not release any information about how the encryption is actually used to protect the datafile - such as how the encryption key is derived and stored. Implementing secure encryption is hard and much larger developers have made crucial mistakes. The developers of 1Password, KeePass and TrueCrypt have fully documented their encryption implementations and file formats. This dev should do the same. I personally would not use it for information which needs to be kept secure.
I took this for a test drive for a few days and I was generally impressed with it. I didn't have any slow downs or stability problems on a Mini 2.53 C2D/4GB, 10.6.8 machine.
My only complaint is that I wish that the outgoing connection alerts of the Anti-Spyware feature were more like those of LittleSnitch or HandsOff. VB only gives a simple Allow/Deny option, while LS/HO give many more options such as allowing a connection on temporary basis, or allowing only the connection to a certain address.
If they improve that feature then I would consider this a great app.
Wake me up when this app stops storing the entry titles in plain text. I bet most people don't even realize that not all of their data is encrypted.
If your Mac is stolen anyone can read the titles of all of your data fields. They won't get the passwords, but they will be able to figure out where you have accounts.
Very impressive brenty. Of course, since I'm not a hacker, phisher or scammer there is no 'move' for me to take with that file. I'm not even going to download it. I suspect that if the wrong people take notice of it that they could cause some grief for you. I hope that does not happen.
So far so good.
10.6.8, in Safari.
I can't say that I'm seeing any difference (positive or negative) between the previous 10.x and this 11.x release. CPU usage seems about the same as well...
The new version 11 (11.0.1.152) seems to have a slight glitch on Youtube. The suggested videos that appear at the end of a clip (the thumbnails within the player) all show a duration of 0:00)
