NeoOffice
theloniousmonk045 commented on 31 Mar 2009
With version 2.2.5, this piece of software was coming into its stride for my needs--a word processor to replace Word. With the latest update to 3.0, however, I've lost interoperability with Word using the .docx file format, as .docx files saved from NeoOffice can neither be viewed with QuickLook (it just shows file type and info) nor opened with Word (says "There is a problem opening the file"). Anyone else having the same issues, or is this a case of dreaded user error?

Excellent. Thanks for keeping us posted. I got the impression from viewing the NeoOffice forum that they're using the same ODF converter as from 2.2.5, though I would suspect that's my misunderstanding as 2.2.5 worked without a problem.

teleport

Both elegant and useful, I stumbled upon this software because of issues with Synergy.

My only issue in using the software was attempting to transfer a larger folder from one Mac to another (7 MB), as the progress bar just froze up on me and completely locked up my host machine.

That being said, I have transferred many files around and under 1 MB without issue, and absolutely love this software. Kudos to the developer!

SynergyKM

theloniousmonk045 reviewed on 30 Oct 2007
Overall, a nice piece of software for multiple platform usage, though beware that SynergyKM doesn't always play nice with other pieces of software.

On my old iBook G4, for example, using SynergyKM caused repeated kernel panics, especially on reboots. I found the issue to be between SynergyKM and iScroll2 (a two finger touch mod for older Powerbooks/iBooks). After repeated attempts to install and uninstall one, both, and one or the other, it became clear the issue only existed when they both were on the machine.

Since I had to choose, I chose iScroll2, and now utilize an alternative to Synergy called teleport (for Macs only). Been kernel panic free and loving it, though I do miss my cross platform playing with a single mouse and keyboard.

I ran into no such issues on my newer MacBook Pro (2.4GHz 15"), granted I have no need for iScroll2 on that machine and so no conflict.

My advice: If it works without conflict, it's great. If not, it's a pain in the arse (Tip: Be ready to Safe Boot OS X).

Color Menu Extras

Nice enhancement for the menu bar. I've found when upgrading to the latest version that my battery/power icon no longer displays the lighting bolt when plugged in.

Thank you for such a quick reply! I've found that using an older version (I just stepped back from 1.1) fixed the issue for me. Keep up the great work, nice new Display icon in 1.2!
