I love MacUpdate, tell it like it is! If it weren't for your comments I'd have had to update Skype and try it out. But now you have put me off it, good work!
Excellent. It's what made me switch back to Safari.
It may be simplistic for some who like FF+adblockplus but it's perfect for me and anyone who doesn't have a want to be bothered by it like the average technophobe/parent.
They have dropped support for PPC and the software update doesn't even know it! I can't justify the cost of an Intel yet. My PPC is perfectly good!
The update came up on Skype and asked me to install it so I thought I would try it out. Not only did the new version not run it deleted the old version!
Seems good to me. Pretty unobtrusive and doesn't use much in the way of resources. (Apart from when it updates, but you can change the frequency or DIY).
Speed needs to be prioritised. The sole reason I use Safari over this is speed. On my perfectly good Powerbook Safari is noticeably snappier and now it has extensions I don't need to use firefox. One reason Chrome is taking off is speed.
This was excellent when it first arrived but it has never kept pace with video and connection quality. With the exception of the last week or so, updates seem to come once in never. And even when both I and someone in my family have a good internet speed and we have no relays (ie. no firewall issues) the quality is pretty poor and video freezes more often than is useful. AND I am a paying customer.
Final point, no PPC anymore? Why? I still have a perfectly good PPC powerbook G4 running 10.5 which is a lot more responsive and fast than many of my friends new cheap dell laptops.
This doesn't seem to work for me. It tries to sync folders/files over and over again even thought they are exactly the same (I have checked their MD5 sums to make sure) and the date and times are identical.
Maybe this has to do with the folder I am copying it to being FAT instead of the Mac filesystem which I am copying it from?
Aha! I read the developers older comments and found that just changing the "two dates are regarded as identical if their difference in seconds is less than" setting to 1 second. This took away all the problems I was getting with files being overwritten with an identical file.
If anyone needs this setting it is in the additional settings located at the bottom left hand corner of the main window (icon is a tick).

Odd, as many people don't use the App store and use MU instead.*

And why does it need an app for an installer? I always right-click the app, show package contents, resources, and click on the actual installer .pkg
I give it a 2 instead of a 1 because it's here to do an important job, otherwise it's crap.
