If MovCaptioner should crash on you there is an easy fix.
With the new undo/redo MovCaptioner is supposed to create a folder in your MovCaptioner folder called "Temp". It should create this folder on its own to hold scratch files as you work, then it will delete them all when you're done, leaving an empty Temp folder. If it does not create the folder, it may cause the problem. Make sure that your MovCaptioner folder is in your main hard drive's Applications folder, then simply create a folder called "Temp" in your MovCaptioner folder. That should solve the problem. Opening a previously saved project should also create this folder. I've added this folder to the new zip file so it should be there in the future to prevent this.
Snow Leopard users will need to use the installer that comes with Snow Leopard to install QuickTime 7, as QuickTime X is not yet fully functional and will not work with MovCaptioner.
Site is down today 9/30/08 and will be back up tomorrow.
If you cannot download MovCaptioner today or view the website, it's because I have exceeded my bandwidth limit for the month. Since people found out that MovCaptioner works with YouTube now, I've had a major influx of visitors to the site. It will be back up tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you've tried MovCaptioner before and when you went to try this version you got a message saying your demo has expired, please try downloading the s/w again. I believe I've corrected this problem. Sorry for the inconenience.
Please delete your old MovCaptioner preferences file prior to using version 1.2 if you've used MovCaptioner before. The old preferences file could cause the app to crash on opening. So go to your USER/Library/Preferences folder and delete the file called MovCationerPrefs and you should be fine.
Also, please be sure to view the movie "How To Get Started" on the website: http://www.slidesnow.com/movcaptioner
You really should see how to use this before you try it the first time. You should use the Start button instead of the movie's play button and don't click the Cue Next button until you know what it's really for. There is also a brief How To Use MovCaptioner file that comes with the app that's worth your time to look at as well.
I just tried something called Gizmo (http://www.gizmoproject.com), that allows you to make free long distance conference calls via your computer. This will work great with SlidesNow! Use SlidesNow! to display your slides and web pages on que and Gizmo to talk directly with your students/clients in real time. So you don't even need to use QT Broadcaster to deliver your audio.
Note that you can also use SlidesNow! to synch slides to a movie that you already have recorded. While SlidesNow! is set up to use QT Broadcaster for synching live video, all you need to do is to use QT Player instead of QT Broadcaster to play your movie while you click through your slides. Everything else is the same. Then use the MovSynch script to import the slide timing into your movie. All the HTML will be written by SlidesNow to your slides folder. Just rename your movie "mymovie.mov" and drop it in your slides folder after it does its thing. Then launch "archive.html" in your web browser and enjoy your synched slide presentation.
