PS3 Media Server
stalepez commented on 08 Mar 2009
I used to use Nullriver's product, I even paid for it (wanna buy my license? I don't use it anymore...), but have always searched for something that was more complete. I tried MediaTomb, but the install and configuration was so difficult and time consuming that I didn't find it worthwhile - and I'm a developer! Eyeconnect was suffering from a combination of the issues described above.

PS3 Media Server has really started down the path to what could become a pretty successful future. If they made some superficial changes, such as prettying it up a little, go from Java to Cocoa, and put some cutsie icons on it, they could win over the MediaLink people.

I've noticed there have been a number of regular updates, which is a major benefit. The transcoding is such a wonderful feature, and works extremely well out of the box.

Other than the UI and some usability tweaks, the developers have done a very good job winning me over.

One word: Hunkajunk.

What kind of demo doesn't allow you to actually demo on your own terms? 5 bucks to see an odd numbered auction?

I have one computer. Not two. Most people have one computer. Not two.

With this kind of "demo", I'd be afraid for 5 bucks i'd get a new message telling me "and for only 5 dollars more, we'll start to display numeric characters".

Pffft.

One good thing, you managed to help me set a new record for how quickly I could install and then subsequently trash something.

Navicat for MySQL
stalepez commented on 22 Mar 2006
Great software! I submitted a bug recently about slow connections to database servers with tons of dbs on them, and they were not only responsive, but fixed it like they said. This is an indespensible application for any heavy SQL development, the only thing I wish it has was direct .xls import/export. otherwise, a great app and highly recommended.
