Usenet is very much alive and as popular as ever. Torrents are for chumps (and hated by traffic-shaping ISPs).
I used Thoth for years, but with the advent of NZB files and index engines, the need to download and browse Usenet headers is long past. I suppose this would be good for up-loaders though.
Just because once upon a time AOL outlived its usefulness doesn't mean that it can't reinvent itself into something worthwhile. I'm willing to try this with that in mind.
Just a comment about the frequency of updates. Nothing more. I didn't comment about the integrity of the developer, nor the usefulness of the software.
I'm liking this hack. A lot. A source of continual frustration for me is the Finder. It's awkward and far less than optimal as tool of productivity. This unifies the interface in a way that makes for fast use of the Finder, instead of multiple windows. It's great with file servers in particular. I suppose a terminal-only geek would scoff, or the purest would sneer, but for the rest of us in the trenches we finally have a Finder that puts everything in one place.
Will mount a server in 10.6.3, but with serious permissions problems which can prevent both downloads and uploads. Un-mounting, mounting doesn't solve the issue. Great idea but still fraught with problems.
Still getting "remote sent corrupt MAC" when attempting to connect to a secure (stftp) server that uses PuTTY keys, even when actually using a PuTTY key. The work around is to use FileZilla instead.
After experiencing serious problems with DAVE 8.0 in Snow Leopard - unfinished copies over SMB, disappearing files on SMB shares, errors deleting files on SMB shares - we were forced to uninstall DAVE. Once it was removed things returned to normal. Clearly DAVE 8.0 is not ready yet. Wait for the problems to be worked out first, as it is nearly unusable in its current state.
I have used this for a long time now, and I hate to have to complain about such a great little free app, but it can't seem to do the first page of a PDF file if the file has more than one page. It always does the second page. Very annoying, but otherwise very use-able.
I should also add that ThumbsUp can't make a thumbnail with the EXACT same name of the original (with a different extension) and put it in the same place as the original. It either must change the name of the thumbnail, or put it in a separate folder, even if the file type changes. This adds unnecessary extra steps.

Also, the UI is a jumbled mess, with too much enabled by default. It can be VERY confusing for less experienced users.
Recommend using Cyberduck instead, as long your FTP serves supports Open SSH. Otherwise use this.
