Because of a change to the database architecture in Calibre 0.8.7+, iDevice users also using Calibre need to be aware that they will need to turn on the iTunes option to "copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library". This will have serious repercussions for those who manually manage their iTunes libraries due to size (i.e., too big for one volume, so scattered across several smaller volumes), complexity, or personal preference.
Good, easy-to-use software media streamer, but Playback only supports Matroska containers by offering to batch transcode them into MP4 containers and store the converted files for later streaming, doubling media storage requirements. Real-time remuxing or transcoding of Matroska containers would be preferred by far.
Correction: Playback batch remuxes Matroska containers into MP4 containers, transcoding only the audio stream as necessary. Only H.264 video streams are supported in Matroska containers, however. And since MP4 containers don't support non-SRT embedded subtitles, and the DLNA specification doesn't support subtitles at all at present, this is not going to be an ideal media streaming solution for everyone. These are the times when real-time transcoding is the preferred way to stream media, which Playback unfortunately doesn't offer.
