The rating is based on the fact that Tweakersoft does not provide a free of charge update that works on newer OSX versions. Other companies that moved to MacAppstore are able to do so. Look at Pixelmator or 1Password; both work on 10.6.x and 10.7.x.
For me it is a kind of convenience app. You can also use an alarm clock, software or hardware, to take a break; and if you work on paper you can take it with you. The integration of Things' and Omnifocus' to-do-lists is nice, unfortunately I don't use these, which also means I cannot comment on the quality of the synchronization feature. The log book is nice, the noise machine is... does someone use it?
The writing boards are something that you use if you don't have Things or some such, otherwise I think it breaks up the information and you start spreading over several applications.
Fast type is buggy. While it works if you write top to bottom, as soon as you remove tabs or insert something, funny things happen, especially when inserting some "fast type" code.
I don't feel comfortable with giving a rating (stars), because for these kind of apps it is not helpful, as everyone has a very different working style.
I tried Curio a bit and found that does too much for me. It is confusing; also I found the MindMap part weak. For it's price you could buy Mindnode Pro and NoteBook and a lot of other software. Try out what fits you best.
I already owned TextExpander and Typinator licenses. Out of curiosity I bought Automaton, and have to say that the developer really sets the new standard with AutoTyper. I have emailed him several times. As this product is quite new, maybe there are not yet that many customers, but I have never had a developer respond that fast with eMails AND new releases. I switched off TexExpander and Typinator for now, AutoTyper does it all and more. I have not yet looked that deep into AutoFiler, but it seems it does nearly everything that Hazel can do for you and a bit more. AutoClips seems, compared to other clipboard managers, the weakest part of the Automaton package, but I have not yet bombarded the developer with request eMails. So I am pretty sure AutoClips will close up fast.
All Automaton modules may have less eye candy than comparable apps from other developers, but that is not important to me.
I am a bit late, because version 1.4.2 is out for some time now. My previous comment was about the beta of 1.4. Now, after using it for quite some time, I can say it is working solid form me. While the was buggy in every corner, the developer made an, knowing the past of this app, astonishing progress.
I also have worked with TheHitList and like the tab feature where you can add notes or pictures to an item. On the other hand I Iike the automatisms of Inbox and the organization.
In my opinion nor Inbox neither TheHitList is the better progamme, because they work in too different ways to make an objective statement. It depends on you, what works best.
Everybody searching for an application that helps organizing to make stuff up, should try Inbox. Of cause there are also other apps lto try, like ThinkingRock...
