Singlemizer is stable and fairly speedy, and finds true duplicates only.
This doesn't mean it's perfect. So that you know what to expect, these are my gripes (not show stoppers, mind you, otherwise this wouldn't rate it four stars):
1) Singlemizer is not exactly easy to use, unless you know answers to "what is the UTI for a jpeg image", for example (???? - that's what I thought). A few more sliders and popup lists would be helpful.
2) Singlemizer is not fully keyboard controllable (setting the delete checkmark on individual files still needs the mouse).
3) Singlemizer compares files only. There's no option to compare contents of folders and delete the folder only if it's exactly the same as another folder. Or, if there is such an option, I have no idea how to use it.
4) For every file, the console logs "file access by '/rsrc' was deprecated in 10.4". I'm thinking scanning would be faster without that warning.
But overall, the price is right and it surely beats some of the other options I've tried, especially when comparing a large number of files (10,000 or more).
Be careful when upgrading from 6.5 to 6.5.1. Apimac has changed the registration scheme, and now requires a key file instead of (or in addition to?) the license number. They will give you a code to get the key file for free, but you have to contact support and it's an inconvenience.
Thanks for making this available for free. I'm always getting confused between iOS and Mac scrolling. Luckily, that's fixed in Lion. Until then, this little program will help out.
It would be great if it was possible to hide the menu bar icon, but hey - it's free.
This is a clever little utility that's especially useful when you connect and disconnect from an external monitor (and like to rearrange your windows because of that).
I wish the menu bar icon could be disabled (I'm out of space up there), but other than that this little gem is stable, reasonably priced and it just works without having to read any kind of complicated how-to install and use document.
CuteClips is absolutely fantastic. I used iClips before and always thought it was pretty good (until the developers abandoned it, that is). That's because I didn't know better.
CuteClips is much faster, more stable, and offers something that I've only grown to appreciate after using it for a while: it's fully keyboard controllable (but you can still use the mouse). The developer is very good answering emails, and will even share his future plans for the software (great things to come).
Last but not least, the price is very reasonable.
I personally wish the program had an iOS companion and cross-Mac synching, that's why there's a "feature" star missing. But that's just nitpicking.
WhatSize does its job for the most part, but beware that disk usage is inaccurate when hard links are in use. Other programs in this genre (DaisyDisk) work better in this respect. Overall, solid software but not the top of the class.
