I bought this yesterday and really like Pins. The site thumbnails are nice and sharp as opposed to Webbla's which are blurry which sort of defeats the purpose of a visual database.
Now to the Drag and Drop of bookmarks into folders a reviewer below states that this doesn't work. I didn't think so either, but there is a knack. Instead of dragging a bookmark and dropping it straight onto the folder, you have to drag it to the left of the chosen folder to highlight the folder then drop. A quirk.
This is only version 1.3 so I'm sure this will be improved in the future.
There are also comments below about the importing of bookmarks and that this is slow. In comparison with Webbla, importing is slower but I'd suggest that this may be related to the quality of thumbnails generated for each site imported. As I said before Pins are nice and sharp whereas Webbla's are blurry.
The developer might be able to shed some light on this.
Sorry to waffle on but I mainly wanted to let people know about the Drag and Drop quirk.
This is a really good graphics application but the inability to open or import any files that are not in its own file format is extremely limiting. I would love to use Artboard more often but constantly find myself reverting to my old version of Illustrator because I can't open files in Artboard, not even .eps. At the moment I see this as a web graphics or dtp only app albeit a good one.
Ok, it seems that I owe Smile an apology. I've just opened PDFpenPro and all the quirky behaviour I was experiencing in my earlier post is no longer there. So to Smile, please accept my apology. I'm not sure what it was I suspect a restart.
PDFpenPro is indeed five star software.
Just bought this as MU Promo and have played around with it for a few minutes now and while it's a decent enough piece of software it's sooo full of bugs. A few examples:
1/ Customise Toolbar- you can't, tried dragging icons to the toolbar and just won't accept them.
2/Sometimes you can't drag the window to move it. It just won't move.
3/ If starting a New document and you drag to expand the window the toolbar icons also expand and contract ,accordingly.
And that's only after playing with it for a few minutes.
I have had earlier versions, and they to were buggy, it's a shame that the dev doesn't seem terribly interested in making PDFpenPro bug free... maybe I'm being a bit harsh.
Don't get me wrong, the actual 'guts' of PDFpenPro is very good , and I do recommend it but it's just all these unnecessary and incredibly annoying things that can make using it a frustrating experience and unfortunately drag it down.
Come on guy's if you're going to call something 'Pro' do it seriously and this could be five star software.
Back in July (re: comment below) I received an email from the developers regarding the long awaited 'grouping' ability.
"...The program is in active development and we prepare v.3 for release. The structure of Swift Publisher was re-built and there was no sense to concentrate on adding grouping feature before completing these changes.
An update should appear on August - September this year."
It's now October 10 and still nothing.
And this from the developer's own forum:
"When will Swift Publisher 3 be out? Any info on upgrading?"
and the response:
"Hi,
I expect the release of the third version in the middle or end of 2010.
Nick"
To the developer: don't insult your customers by constantly making promises you have no intention of keeping.
I for one am sick of waiting and am going to buy another product. More than likely iStudio Publisher, a few dollars more than Swift Publisher but has more features.
Not only is this the 'best in class', but the level of support is fantastic!
I had a slight issue back a few weeks ago about which the developer (Reggie) about . Reggie contacted me back within hours offering his help. This morning I received an email from him letting me know that the issue had been fixed in the latest update.
I wish some other developers cared about customer support/service as much as Reggie.
If you're thinking about AppDelete; stop thinking and just get it, you won't regret it.
For the money, this is an absolute bargain. Although it may look like an app to simply 'pretty' up you're folders, it can actually be a real time saver when looking for folders and really comes into it's own in 'cover flow' in Finder, Forklift, whatever. If you're into 'tagging' FolderFactory may not be for you.
The application itself is easy to use and very polished. To use you need to have not only the app open but Finder (Forklift, whatever). Create your new folder in FolderFactory then drag the folder you want to change from Finder (Forklift, whatever) to the Folder Factory window and it's done.
A note: The new folder is refreshed in Finder straight away. In Forklift I've found that sometimes Forklift has to be closed and reopened to see the new folder.
For those that complain about the lack of a trial, I do see your point, and in the majority of cases would agree, but c'mon, give the developer a break... it's $2.99! The next time you go to a cafe/coffee shop you haven't been to before ask the proprietor for a sample before you put your money down for a cup of coffee.
$70!!!! These guy's seriously need to check their caffeine intake. Thought this looked interesting, but I'm not even going to trial it at that price, especially with the limited export options.
I didn't want to put this in reviews/comments because I really like 1Password (when it works), and I understand that it is not necessarily the developers fault that it is not currently working in Safari 5.1.
But I really cannot understand the reasoning behind the 'new' ios looking window in the extension. Sure it might look 'cute' to some but as far as I'm concerned it's complete garbage. Takes up room, can't search and well, just looks really cheap. Please bring back the previous interface.
