EarthDesk is a great little toy app, it makes you desktop and screensaver feel more lively, if you are into the changing views of the earth. But it isn't always reliable in running and it can eat resources.
I never use iCal unless I have something really important to add because the interface doesn't feel quite right. But since using Fantastical I've found that I keep track of more events and am not nearly as stressed by my schedule because Fantastical makes it easy to keep up with it.
Brilliant interface, great wealth of information and a great quick-reference point for the geek who would otherwise keep ActivityMonitor open all the time.
Mellel is the best academic writing tool for any platform, it's steady development and extensive features make it an absolute must for anyone writing for academia. I've had professors who swear by Word or WordPerfect, yet compared to my fellow students who use those tools I have never been marked off for formatting mistakes since I started using Mellel, it makes getting your presentation perfect easy and consistent, so you can focus on your writing instead of your formatting.
Bookends is a great product, it is an essential part of my academic writing, especially as I have begun work on my Master's Thesis and am looking beyond that to my eventual PhD dissertation. No other tool is more helpful in keep all your sources under control and easily useable in your writing process. It's only downside is that it's interface feels clunky and inefficient at times.
