Apple iTunes

Why didn't/doesn't this show up in Software Update?

v3.8.2 crashes upon launch under OS X Lion 10.7.2. Developer has been notified, and has identified a point of failure. Too soon to see whether that will result in a version upgrade or a silent fix.

Does not seem to recognize an iPAD2 running iOS 5.0 connected to a MacBook Pro running Lion Os X 10.7.2 :( It comes up blank: it sees a device, but can't say anything about it. The Developer has been notified.

After a new download, suddenly it just works. Thanks for a great utility!

Crashes upon launch under Lion 10.7.1 even after removal of all caches, preferences, user-definitions and a new reinstall.

Good to have it back without needing Rosetta under Lion. Admirably accomplishes what it promises - nothing more, but no less.

Sigma Chess
Outer commented on 10 Jul 2011
With LION ready to pounce, what are Sigma Chess users planning to do to protect their investments in licenses for HIARCS (sp/mp) and Deep Junior? I've heard that Shredder, ExaChess and Scid can all use external HCI chess engines; so, which is easiest to set up using Sigma's directory tree, and configure, and, well, get playing?

PDF Unlock
Outer commented on 08 Jul 2011
Under 10.6.8, when I try to launch this a dialog pops-up from the Finder saying "You can't open the application PDF Unlock because it may be damaged or incomplete." and its icon is displayed with the dreaded "no exit" symbol. What gives?

Hmmm, this time around there doesn't seem to be any way of getting a non-updating version. I think you more-or-less have to agree to let the app install Google's always-check-for-updates-for-all-installed-Google-apps-in-the-background updater. Even manually denaturing the app by removing the update scripts doesn't seem to help. Could be wrong. Anyone?

Sorry to be replying to myself, but it looks as though even a denatured v5.xx version when launched is now demanding that Google's auto-update-in-the-background service be installed.

Sorry, no. Plonk, plonk, empty Trash.

Apple Xcode
Outer commented on 10 Mar 2011
Does anyone see a way of customizing the App Store installer? It seems to be all-or-nothing, despite what the "About Xcode" readme file implies.

Does anyone know if the "free" $99.00 ADC version works the same way, or is it still pick-and-choose?

Most of the old CHUD tools seem to be missing in action, but they may simply have been integrated into the Instruments utility.

@Maruko Drinking Team : And after all is said and done, there really doesn't seem to be much difference, does there? The options one is given don't amount to much more than "do you want it all or not?" do they?

As though it needed repeating... there are several different projects at work here. Why do each of them seem to continue to be released independently rather than as an updated agreed-upon combined release?

Apple Lion Recovery Update
Outer had trouble on 13 Oct 2011
For folks with both a Lion Recovery Partition and a TechToolPro eDrive partition already installed, Lion Recovery Update (running under 10.7.2) may report that it is unable to create a Recovery Partition and offer you the 'option' of Cancelling the installation.

My workaround was to mount the existing Lion Recovery Partition, using Disk Utility, and then run Lion Recovery Update. Seems to have worked like a charm.

The Internet Plugin does not appear to play nicely with case-sensitive volumes. See < http://code.google.com/p/earth-issues/issues/detail?id=647 >

In short, there is currently no way to get the Internet Plugin installed onto a case-sensitive volume.
