Those in the UK considering purchasing FontExplorer X Pro, be aware you'll be charged more.
You can only buy it from the Linotype website in Sterling, for £59, excl. VAT. At today's exchange rate (1.633), that's $96. And after VAT, $110. So why are people in the UK being charged more?
After e-mailing Linotype, I was told they would not discuss pricing policy but to wait/look for a 30% discount promotion.
If a 30% discount is applied (with VAT added), to bring it down to $77, that's still only $2 less than what we, in the UK, should have been paying in the first place.
First of all, I don't know what version of APE it was, but...
I was freelancing for a client and their aged G5 (10.5.8) was becoming more and more unstable. When switching between applications the tab key no longer worked. A file had to be saved using the mouse, not a keyboard shortcut. And when dragging a file on the desktop, it automatically generated a copy without holding down the option key. It seemed to occur when more than two applications were open at the same time, leading me to think it was faulty RAM. The only way to get past this was a restart, about six times a day.
After a load of tests I suddenly noticed Application Enhancer was installed. Once removed, the problems disappeared.
As previous people have said, if your machine isn't being used for business, it's worth giving this a go. Otherwise, it's probably best left alone. I'd estimate my client has lost a good four hours of my time over the last few days because of the problems above.
