Address Book Server

mrehab reviewed on 13 Mar 2008
Installed ABS the December 2007 & March 2008 builds on a Mac Mini running Leopard Server.

ABS Dec build disabled file sharing. ABS Mar build disabled iCal server. The Dec ABS and client build shares AB contacts. I did NOT test ABS sharing with Mar build because of iCal server issue. Uninstalling ABS restored affected services.

ABS has promise, but should not disable features. Client uninstall is easy. Server uninstall, requiring unix command line knowledge, should be re-written to parallel client uninstall ease. Support only via email. ABS seems to function and beta testing should continue. I cannot, though, recommend ABS as a finished solution at this moment.

After live chat with developer, I must give a glowing review that this is essentially ready. Recommend purchase!

Used FMP since ver4 and found updates GREAT. Very easy to build templates fast.

VERY disappointed FM shifted emphasis from small to corp, esp with IWP now set at 5? users. VERY pissed at the cost of going from ver7.0 to ver8.0 to ver8.5. Ver8.5 really is ver8.0, what a rip! Monopoly as only Apple relational database hurts their clients. Downloaded ver8.5.2 update because I went Leopard & ver8.0 hung & now can NOT print to pdf in Apple printing dialog box. FM says they don't look for backward OS compatibility, so buy the ver9.0. Acts like FM and Apple don't talk to each other.

What a crock ...
