Inpaint
Mmueck commented on 14 Jan 2012
Today is January 14 and MacUpdate is announcing version 4.0 of InPaint - something I'd purchased in early October of last year...

Thanks also to Cowicide for his review - it's right on the money.

That's odd - I've had version 5.01 since November 29, 2011 and here it is being announced on MacUpdate January 2, 2012.

$2495! Any word on the price for the family-pack...

Samba
Mmueck commented on 09 Aug 2011
Sigh - I keep eyeing off these new releases and, despite the comment by Yappa a couple years ago, I *still* can't figure out how to install this. The amount of documentation associated with this Samba package is positively daunting and it clearly implies a high degree of unix command line geekery. Take a read of all of the reviews and comments posted here (which go back to 2004) - NOT ONE comment is by anybody who has successfully installed this on a Mac, and that in itself makes a sobering statement. If anybody out there has installed this I would greatly appreciate your feedback and, more importantly, any helpful instructions. Does an installation script exist?

Inpaint

This software is fantastic for removing unwanted stuff in a picture. You can remove distracting objects in the background, watermarks, blemishes - anything. I did find some aspects of the user interface confusing at first so I'll pass along my feedback to the developer. I highly recommend this!

Manpower

I originally posted this in the troubleshooting tab, but figured most people don't browse that. I'm always interested to read if an application is one of those crash or lockup on run affairs:

Downloaded this from the developer's website and couldn't get it to work. It briefly brought up a couple small malformed windows before yielding the main screen, and then a sheet was produced explaining that a demo period was in effect and it had a couple buttons for yes/no asking to buy it. I clicked on No because I wanted to try it and it didn't respond! It needed force quitting. Tried again, same deal. This is not ready for prime time yet...

Hmmm - this requires 10.6.6, which is the OS X update I passed on due to privacy concerns with the App Store.

Mac DVDRipper Pro
Mmueck commented on 08 Jan 2011
Oh heck! I purchased v2.0 at Christmas and spent my ENTIRE 2 week vacation and all my spare time since ripping my dvd collection onto hard drives in main movie only mode - that's about 700 movies and 4TB, and I'm only half way through. Now I see that v2.01 is out and I read:

Fixed repeated chunks in main movie only mode for certain DVDs.

So now what? There's no mention at all on the developer's website as to what those "certain DVDs" are, and there's no script in the new version to fix the malformed movies. I'm respectfully asking the developer to respond to this concern so all affected users of this software know what's happened to them and what their options are.

Circus Ponies NoteBook
Mmueck commented on 05 Jan 2011
Just passing along my experience here. I tried updating to 3.01 on two of my computers and had all kinds of abnormal stuff happen (within Notebook, not to the computer itself) and one of my notebooks also got corrupted. My Console on both computers is full of Notebook related spew. If you're happy with 3.0 then I'd wait till 3.02 and avoid this one...
For now, I'm stuck until the developer gets back to me with a link to the previous version.

I'm on 3.03 now and still seeing crashes here and there. This product has certainly taken a turn for the worse over the past few months :-(.

SketchBook Pro 2010
Mmueck commented on 29 Oct 2010
And another thing, unlike every other Mac application out there, Sketchbook can only open one image at a time. If you want to look at two Sketchbook creations side by side then you'll need another different application to do that. As near as I can tell, the only thing this software has going for it is that it is the best out there that I've found for producing smoothly antialiased artwork.
