It took a while to scan a friend's library (20,000+ photos) but Duplicate Annhilator did a great job of identifying and deleting more than 8,000 dupes that my friend had accidentally re-imported.
And she was ecstatic about only paying $8 for that privilege.
I tried grabbing the Combo DMG 3x and each time checksum fails after the download is done.. anyone else? If I skip verification it mounts fine but installation fails, citing a problem with the installer...
Not much to complain about since it's free... I've uploaded about 18,000 tracks without a hitch (over 200GB!). The Mac software isn't the prettiest, but it works.
I use the third-party gMusic app on my iPhone ($1.99) which creates an almost-iPod/Music app like experience. You don't get some of the same syncing features that iTunes Match offers (sync playlists, sync star ratings, etc.) but again, it's totally free and accessible from any Web browser and smart device.
I use this in Safari under Lion on my MacBook Pro and a Mac mini connected to an LCD TV.
I have had zero issues with this. I was using an original Slingbox with the Slingbox app (long abandoned, replaced by this plugin for new Slingboxes) and was skeptical that the upgrade to the Solo (for HD support) would be worth having to use a browser to watch it... but it's been totally flawless. The built in guide is really nice, too.
I've been using TechTool Pro for ages in my arsenal of Mac utilities (along with DiskWarrior and DriveGenius).
Since version 5, it's been every bit as reliable and effective at rebuilding directories as DiskWarrior, which means I've been using that latter utility less than before.
I like the granularity of the SMART status check, which lets you see the health of many parameters of a drive (rather than just PASS or FAIL). This is extremely practical for identifying drives that may fail before they actually do.
The defrag tools (optimize files, optimize free space) also work terrific, although they do take a bit of time. There's no flexibility like there is with iDefrag to specify the sort of optimization you want, but the scheme TechTool Pro uses is solid and has rescued many friends' Macs from sluggish performance (especially those with drives a few years old).
No real complaints here, except that in the age of the Mac App Store and general declining app prices, $100 seems a little steep, but if TechTool Pro ever saves your Mac or or your files (as it has for me), the time saved makes the price point extremely palatable.
@Robk -- That's not really a source, at least no more so than my similar anecdote that I haven't noticed any performance degradation (and I've used Macs without either, Macs with Parallels, Macs with Fusion, and Macs with both).
If someone actually has benchmarks and a list of what "deeper hooks" Parallels installs, that would be useful.
IMO anyone who has to do a clean install of OS X to restore performance after an app install (like Parallels) doesn't really know what they're doing. Parallels' uninstaller is very comprehensive, and it's not hard to go through your /Library and ~/Library folder and verify that Daemons and startup processes and other "hooks" have in fact been removed. It's not like Parallels is installing hidden files that screw up performance and stay around even after Parallels has been uninstalled.
Robk: When you launch Fusion the first time, you need to enter your admin password (twice). I'm not sure what it's installing or initializing during that process, though (I haven't bothered checking) but it's clearly something system-level, which also explains why it's not in the Mac App Store despite its drag and drop installation goodness.
Anyway, regarding Leopard/Snow Leopard, 4.1.1 removes that support which isn't surprising since they were running afoul of Apple's EULA in the process.
This doesn't seem to work under 10.6.1. It looks like the file transfers (I can tell by iStat Menus) but the widget just spins forever... something is getting stuck.
Tried out 2.0, first time I've checked out this app... first annoying thing: radio stations are only organized by State, and you can't fine tune that list further (by city or region).
Second annoying thing: you can't sort the stations, be it by frequency or call name.
Third annoying thing: when I went to play a station (any station), all I get is "RRMplayer unexpectedly quit."
I have the same issue as ROBERTS2424. Just tried TubePod for the first time today, popped in a URL (curious to see whether it was smart enough to grab the HQ version), but no go... when it was almost done I got the message:
"There was an error in calculating the conversion process."
Then I click OK and get the message:
"Where is Play Sound.app?"
(Hint: it's here, on MacUpdate, and not on my Mac since it's quite old and I have no use for it.)
So I click "Cancel" since I don't have Play Sound which yields the error:
"AppleScript Error File Play Sound.app wasn't found. (-43)"

This should probably still be in beta... it will be cool when it works well (and if it grabs HQ video).
