This looks an awful lot like it's just a repackaged and renamed version of 'Schreiben', an older (and abandoned?) program by the same developer, but released under his company name 'MoApp'.
A very interesting and aesthetically looking project. Every now and then I try a new release, but never use it for long, because it gobbles up RAM like there's no tomorrow.
Within 3 minutes after launch, RAM use was up to just over 1GB! If they manage to keep it well under 100mb, I'm willing to giver it a serious try.
Having only tried the demo for a few days, I have to say QuickPick works and looks great. I won't be using it anymore though, as it uses way too much RAM. Even after launching it and adding one or two things, it already used 125mb. That's way too much for what this program does.
Wonderful implementation of a great idea. It's really fast, and I love how the previews work when using the dock as well as the command-tab switcher. The one reason I won't be using this. however, is ram use. Within 2 minutes after launching, and having switched only a few programs, DockView was already using 120mb of my RAM. That's way way to much for something a 'small' as this. It really needs to be under 25-35mb for me to use something like this.
I bought Photon shortly after it was released. At the time I thought is was by far the best program to quickly view and sort RAW files. These days, however, I hardly use it anymore. There are other programs out there which do more or less the same, but faster, and, more importantly, development seems to have ground to a halt. Just check the developer's blog, no mention of Photon at all in any of the more current posts.
A shame really, as I still feel Photon has a lot of untapped potential. And btw, yes, I have emailed the developer a few times, and always got a swift reply. The promised update(s) have yet to materialize though.
@ DIWhite: The few times I still use Photon is to sort a folder of assorted images, mostly just jpegs. For all my RAW files I've switched to Aperture. I have tried other programs, but none appealed to me, really. Here's hoping the developer hasn't completely abandoned Photon.
Love the core-animation effect when hiding the clutter on my desktop. One problem though, within 5 minutes after launching Shade was already using 310mb of ram. That's a wee bit too much for my liking. Keep ram-use under 20mb and you've got a winner here.
First and for most, I'm amazed this is still free.
Sequential is a truly outstanding when it comes to previewing images. Sure, Preview in (Snow) Leopard ain't bad either, but for me, Sequential is faster, easier, more versatile and a lot slicker. Thanks for keeping this updated!!
