How ironic. I started with Macs around 1987. Everything was black and white. It eventually went to gray, and people celebrated. Then we clamored for color. We eventually got color, albeit only 256 colors. But it was revolutionary. Now Apple wants to go back to black and white. Sigh.
I don't want to write a review because I think this is still in development. And with Unsanity out of the picture, this is the only windowshade game in town.
That being said, this current version doesn't work for me. Yes, it does windowshade, but the shaded window does not stay in the foreground. For instance, I set a hot key to windowshade. I chose a window, hit the key, and it shaded. One would think I could then hit the hot key again and it would unshade. But no, I have to use my cursor to select the window (by clicking on it) and then I can unshade it.
I do not find this helpful or time-saving. Currently, I'm using SizeUp to move windows out of the way when I want to see what's behind them while still keeping them in the foreground. It's not as elegant as windowshading, but it gets the job done.
This is an interesting program, although I don't yet know if I need it. For me, it provides a variation on the old "focus follows mouse" procedure, wherein one can hover the cursor over a background window and bring it to the front. That's not exactly what DwellClick does, but it can sort of work that way. (It will click the background window and bring it to the foreground.) I am definitely starting to find it handy in other ways as well.
To the developer: You are wise to offer a demo. It has me intrigued, and I'm certain that others who get to try it will find it worth pursuing. The only viable alternative I've seen is RapidClick, but there's no demo for that. Even though DwellClick is more expensive, I'll take the known over the unknown.
Back in the day, iClip was one of THE premier programs of its kind. A lot of people were frustrated at its lack of development and a lack of responsiveness from the developer. This new developer, I think, chose wisely in taking over this program. There are others on the market, but this one has quite a few features and an active developer who's responsive to customers. He's helped me several times over the past few months.
I have to concur with others and lament the loss of this program. I also did a search to find it on another site, and I'm glad I did. I've tried several programs of this type, but this is the cleanest and easiest of the bunch. I hope the developer can make a comeback.
What is this nonsense? I wanted to try a demo of this program. I go to their site, I sign up, and "step 2" requires me to accept one offer, such as "sign up for a credit card," or "Netflix," etc.
I can't simply obtain a demo and make a decision? I have to literally sign up for something.
Ordinarily, I would just make a comment instead of giving a rating, but this is outrageous.
