Thoughts

Llongley reviewed on 27 Jan 2012
Bought this back in April 2011 and was willing to wait for promised implementations. We are 3 months from a year and not one has been made. In fact no updates at all that I can remember. This app had so much potential but I am moving on. Another developer that over promised and delivered not much so far. This app has the bones to become indispensable but not as it stands now.

Animation continues to be slow and it's just an over priced note pad as it stands. My bad for buying.

The lack of any sync option is a deal breaker for me. I could live with the limited import, even more limited print options and would be willing to wait for the inability to out put passively collected data to be corrected. But I do not only write or have ideas while sitting at my computer. And the built in bug you feature (I think this is a good feature) makes this only a "log of my computer activity and how I feel while working at my computer rather than a true journalling app that recognizes that things occur in my life even when I am not sitting at my computer.

Is anyone still using this? It looks like what I've been looking for but I am a bit concerned that the last comment good or bad seems to be from 2009?

I also went to the mobile review and it does have good reviews but very little info on this app on any site. I am concerned that there seems to be no user forum either...makes one wonder? I'd appreciate any feed back.

This is not a review and I did not rate the app because I have never used the app. I fully intended to try the app but then noticed the one review (4.6) for this app was made by the developer. I do not have a problem with the developer leaving what I am sure he feels is a useful message. In addition I want to be clear that the developer clearly identified himself as the same. However, while I am impressed with what the app says it will do I think it is extremely disingenuous for the developer to rate his software???

Of course it is a 4.6 to you (why not a 5?) But the developers review should not be among impartial end user reviewers (and why didn't you give it a "5" is there a problem that prevents it from being a "5")?.

The developer did not have to rate the software to post his comment as he could have done what I just did and make his review a comment.

Is there something I am missing. If I am to trust these reviews to narrow my search for software that meets my needs ratings such as this diminish this site as a useful tool. (Every developer no matter how good or bad the software from the end users point of view believes his software is a 5. And he/she should because of the work, time and effort they put into it.

This is probably an oversight by the developer but this makes me less likely to try his product until there are many many more reviews that do not appear to be linked to people who stand to make a profit from its sell.

I don't usually write this type of comment and hope the developer sees my point but this site is to valuable to have people lose faith in the reviews to the point of ignoring the site. I learn form other reviews and hope some do the same from mine but this behavior undermines the whole idea of the site.

If the developer wants to write a note telling us how his software is better than all others in the category great just do not influence the overall ratings (what users think of the software) by rating your own software!

My review is for version 4.01 only. I have to say I like this app or at least I did. Actually it does what it says and works consistently. My main complaint is with the current version. Every since the last upgrade each time you delete an item from the list you have to confirm the deletion. I understand this and it's intention but it should be something the user decides is necessary or has the option to turn off. As it is currently it makes the app an inconvenience and as annoying as hell.

If this is not fixed soon I will be looking for a replacement. It's really a shame too, because this is a really good app and the developer should have thought of something this simple before pushing in on users as this behavior was not in previous versions (including version 4.0). I have looked in preferences etc. looking for a way to disable this behavior with no luck. What an oversight!! They need to fix this as soon as possible, this is supposed to be a time saving app not something to make my workflow more difficult!!! CHRONOS ARE YOU LISTENING???

First this about version 4.0.3. only. Well another update and new problems. If nothing else about Chronos is consistent this is, that each update will bring new headaches and problems with the software. Why do I have to have a menu bar icon beginning with this update??? In the past I could decide if I wanted one or not and now I have no choice??? I already have the shelf why do I need two places to access Chronos on one monitor? This may be useful for some I understand that so I am not saying the option should not be there but why do I not have a choice? Almost every app I have gives me that choice except Chronos. Also this update wiped out my saved clips, this is also new. I wonder what horror Chronos has in store for it's next upgrade. I am a SOHO notes user so I should be used to this but it still P'sMO when they do this as it makes it so clear they either do not have a clue or do not give a damn how the customers use the software.

Chronos, adding things in updates is great taking away things that worked and replacing them with questionable things is not so great. Not a problem that some improvements were needed but why did you need to take away things that were working fine? This could all be about the Chronos lack of communication. As other developers sometimes have to remove a function to correct a problem but the successful ones communicate that to their customers with an explanation of the plan to re-instate the removed item or why that is not possible. But not Chronos!

Again this is a good app that needs a few tweaks. The complaints listed below are good places to start Chronos and leave what is working alone.

This is a great product that does exactly what it says it does in a way tha is simple and straight forward. Upon the upgrade I had no problem getting my free. I especially like the option to just download the audio file.

Does it work with iCloud yet? I am tempted to download but it is not clear on either this site or the product site if moving to iCloud changes compatibility.

MacDropUpdate

This is a great program that fills a real need. Why doesn't dropbox have an update system built in???

Any way the one thing I would very much like to see added is the ability to specify the update intervals. In other words let me specify to check for updates once daily as opposed to every few hours as it is now. The constant popups can be very annoying when it jumps up in the middle of your workflow.

Tried they app and I love it. It does what it says it will do with a pretty slick UI. I was prepared to buy when I read your license agreement and now understand that this is subscription software I have questions.

Agreement is for one year…upgrades free for 1 year. So I have to repurchase this software every year to get upgrades no matter how small or large or if they even happen? ? Why not charge an upgrade price for significant upgrades and minor upgrades are free like most developers? I know it seems to not be a big issue but it is. I had this problem with Synchronize Pro and found my self having to pay for small upgrades just because the calendar ticks another month. Many of which were upgrades I (and others) had been waiting for months for just to have the program work as it should. At $20.00 buck per year if I use this software for 5 years it will cost me $100.00 with or without upgrades of any significance.

This model leaves to much unclear for the end user and puts us at the mercy of the developer and his ethics (which by the way may be impeccable). Rather than being charged for innovation and improvement I am charged because time passes? Is the App store version the same? I guess I may have to look further and thats a shame as this is great software.

Developer, if you read this please help me understand why any end user should purchase under this model. I clearly do not mind paying for significant upgrades to software but to have to pay in advance on a yearly basis for minor upgrades, upgrades required to make the software work or possibley no upgrades is just not right.

Thanks for being so responsive. I will purchase immediately. My preference is to purchase directly from developers as they deserve all the profit they can get as they are the ones making my apple product worth while. I can figure out how to update…been doing it all these years. Thanks again.

iDocument
Llongley commented on 26 Sep 2011
Just a question. During my yearly spin through the available programs for storing documents I ran across iDocuments. It's feature set really seems nice and most reviews are complimentary but my question for those who use this product or the developer if he sees this, is what happened to the iPhone product. It is still advertised on the web sight but no sign of it in the iTunes app store. Did I just look at the wrong time (around ten AM Monday 9/26)? An IOS version is important to me and no need for me to get involved if there is no ipad/iphone version at least in the works. Thanks
