Not so keen on the new UI for v5 - got trapped a couple of times when setting a timer by the fact that you have to create a timer, then save it, then click on the start button to actually use it. I would have thought that 99% of the time, when you create a timer, you actually want to time something! so the UI should make that the default.
I thought that MS had taken the time to right all the wrongs of their previous attempts, but clearly that is not the case. Yes, there is a lot of power there, but I've used better user interfaces, and even basic things like the scrolling behavior and window ordering are still screwed up just like they were in the previous version.
Still a CPU hog. Still jumpy video in Firefox. Wish the tech guys could get together and sort out a single high quality video format that we could all use. Yes, I know that flash is more than just a video player, but that it 99% of what I use it for.
Really nice outliner. Some things are a bit non-obvious (like splitting some text into two items), and sometimes it just doesn't respond to my typing for a number of seconds at a time. Also, If find the hoist function confusing. Apart from that, it's well designed, and easy to use, and quick to create outlines.
Very useful tool for when I need to draw up diagrams and also for creating PDF icons and other images. I really like the ability to operate on the shapes in the Pro edition. The only thing that annoys me is the snapping of lines to shapes when I don't want to do that. Other than that, a brilliant app.
I tried - really tried to get this to work because I have to deal with people using Mind Manager on Windows from time to time, but was frustrated with the constant crashes on Lion, so went looking for something that would allow me to import and export Mind Manager files, and found NovaMind. Wow, what a brilliant product! Their layout options and design flexibility put Mind Manager to shame, and their support staff are very helpful. And now I'm finding that quite a few of the people I am doing business with are trying NovaMind for Windows and several have switched there too. I had used NovaMind 4 in the past, which was OK, but with v5 they have raced past Mind Manager.
I understand that Mind Manager have patched the instabilities in their product, but for me it was too late - I had already switched to NovaMind, and am not intending to come back.
Well I guess you get what you pay for. The Java roots show through, and although there is some promise here, it is held back by technology choices (and with Apple backing away from Java in Lion, the future looks a bit questionable), and missing functionality.
I tried all the apps and eventually went with NovaMind - not a free app, but certainly the best mind mapping app for Mac, and has all the features I need for both business and personal use.
Love this app! This is my most used productivity tool. I've tried them all (iMindMap, Mind Manager, XMind, Freemind, etc etc), and this has by far the most powerful features, and yet is still very easy to use.
The redesign they have done for v5 is excellent. They have taken a really good application and rebuilt it as a truly fantastic app.
After using ScreenFlow for the last year, I was forced by circumstances beyond my control to create a video using Camtasia. It was like going back to the dark ages. Very inflexible and non-intuitive. I'd recommend ScreenFlow over Camtasia any day.
Love this app, and the new version is such a big improvement over an already excellent app. I find the new callout functionality to be great. I've used lots of different video editing and screen capture software, and this is by far the best for creating video tutorials. Much better than Camtasia.
