Very handy tool for creating nice color hillshades, countours, etc. The tools for finding high or low points are also useful. Having greater control over grayscale images would be a nice addition, particularly as a replacement for some of the hillshade tools from gdal.

I Love Stars

Start iTunes and have a song playing, then ctrl-click or right-click the menu item for I Love Stars. That will bring up the option to quit the application. Then you can replace it without any problem. Alternatively, you can find it in the Activity Monitor application and quit the process that way.

Remote Buddy

I recently plunged into the world of the iPhone. Having had a bluetooth phone before that was not crippled in the way the iPhone is, I was quite content with Remote Buddy. After getting the iPhone, I tried out the AJAX remote capabilities of Remote Buddy. I was pleased, but recognized that a lot of progress was needed to make it usable.

That is no longer the case with the latest update. All the problems I was experiencing appear, under brief testing, to be a thing of the past. I am excited to have a dependable remote for presentations or other uses. Great work on fixing the issues in the last version. This is a great product and entirely a good value in my book.

Now I have to take the time to learn how to use Remote Buddy to its fullest potential as there is a lot of functionality that I have yet to explore.

This is indispensable for anyone that works with georeferenced data. Personally, I have been hoping for something just like this. Now it is hear.

The simple installer will give you access to several common formats so you can preview them in the Finder. This is very handy.

Unfortunately, the formats that are supported are quite limited. Apparently, gdal is not being used to provide format support. If it were, information on geotiffs, qml, kml, gpx, and numerous other formats should be available. On the other hand, the file size is very small and resource use seems to be quite low.

I got the intel version today and it worked (was that link there yesterday?). Regarding the functionality of the product, I tried to convert a relatively straightforward table from pdf to Excel and it did not do real well. Several columns and many rows were missing, although the cells that were present looked good. It might be worth a try for these conversions, and it is probably the best option currently available on the platform. But I would not pay the price given that it did not get the job done correctly. I tried no other conversions.

The program crashes the Finder if run from the disk image.

This is a great tool that has similar free offerings on other platforms, but was lacking a free/oss version for OS X. Kudos to the developer for providing this tool. Worked perfectly for me in my two applications to date.

This is a simple yet effective application for turning pdf documents into filled-in forms. Yes, you can use Acrobat or Preview (with frequent problems) if you are filling in pre-defined forms. But many forms are locked, such as the passport forms from the US Government. Using this program, you can create modifiable forms in short order. I hope this program continues to work in future OS X revisions.

What a great idea. This really makes an American feel closer to the action (although this is probably a false sense of reality), and it enhances civic engagement simply and effectively by allowing one to easily track actions in Congress.

Currently, the archive is ill-structured, but that does not effect the product performance. As far as I can tell, it seems to work well. I used my zip code + 5 and my rep and 2 senators were added to vote tracking.

This is a great game, open source or otherwise. For those of us from the side-scrolling era of game greats, like Super Mario Brothers, this is an excellent stand-in. I am glad to see that development progresses and that it is compiled as a universal binary. Runs great on my MBP C2D. Looking forward to Milestone 2.

Perian

jctull had trouble on 31 Jan 2007

I am getting out-of-sync issues with Perian on avi files containing Generic mpeg-4 video and mpeg layer 3 audio. If I switch to the Divx codec or use VLC, the sync problem is gone. My hardware is a MBP C2D running 10.4.8. I will post this same comment to their mail list.
