WideMail 0.5.1 is not running with Snow Leopard!
We all have to wait for an Update on which the DEV is already working on.

The "workaround" you did will not enable WideMail on 10.6.
It's basically just a bugfix for "Mail.app" (without WideMail installed).
It's for users who recently upgraded to 10.6 while having WideMail installed.
When you edit the "*.plist" file you will be able to get your "Subject" column back.
It disapeared because WideMail provides to show/hide the "Subject" column.
So as the plugin isn't working you will have to uninstall WideMail for now and wait or an update which will be released, hopefully soon.
