After looking at this program I found information relating to the use of a program called PRO-Tector 6 that acts like a root kit. The poster was unable to put his computer to sleep and he mentioned issues of not being able to spin down the drives. The program was installed at the root level of the Mac and caused all kinds of problems. I know this company uses this scheme and it is dangerous. About 10 years ago Sony came up with a system like this and hosed the PC world.

The price in this product promo is $199.00 but when I went to the site to make a purchase the price was $299.00 for the full version and $149.00 for the upgrade.
Is this the classic bait and switch or did MacUpade make a mistake?
This is not a review but a comment and question.
I downloaded and installed the program and find it useful. My problem is the hoops you have to jump through to get it registered. The scheme seems worse than BIAS and Adobe put together. I have avoided all software that dump this kind of scheme on users. You have to sign up, register just to have questions answered about program use. I have passed the program up before but the price has been dropped so I am considering it now.
My question is to any one who has used this program is putting up with the developers crap worth it. What I was able to do with the demo was impressive.
I have a Mac Pro and a Mac Book Pro and want to know if I can run the program on both machines. I travel and process my files with the MacBook Pro when traveling. I was unable to get this information unless I register. Basic information should be available with out jumping through hoops.
My initial impression is to stay away from this company.
I have just downloaded the program Photos Artist and installed it on my MacBook Pro. The following is a list of issues I experienced.
1- The download link was sent to your email address and you got the program from there. The download did not come through Safari's regular download window. The suggestion was to download to the desktop. I selected the desktop but the program downloaded to the root directory. The download was 1.16 gig. There was a progress bar that kept you apprised of the progress.
2- After un-zipping the file I installed it. The program placed over 1.2 gig of files on the my hard drive. The menu asked for primary language and I selected English. I allowed the program to finish installing.
3- When I ran the program I was suppressed to see it take over the entire screen. I was unable to access the menu bar, the dock, the hard drive or the desk top. The other issue was the black screen that took over the desk top was in a non English language. I could not understand any of the menu and had to blindly push buttons until I could exit the program.
4- I would appreciate it if someone with better computer skills than I would take a look at this program. It is very un-Mac but may have merit that I did not see.
5- I do not make a habit of trashing others work because I am not a software designer or programer. I have great appreciation for those who make my Mac into a useful tool.
I purchased this program and it is not intuitive at all. The fact that you have to log in to some mythical server to get up dates is ablolutely stupid. I have tried for the last hour to get the most recent update with no success. The developers site offers no help either. I have transactions numbers and names as well as the eMail address but none have been accepted.
Stay from this dog.
