HAL's capabilities, like all the technology in 2001, were based on the speculation of respected scientists. Marvin Minsky, director of the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and one of the most influential researchers in the field, was an adviser on the film set. In the mid-1960s, computer scientists were generally optimistic that machines with HAL's capabilities would exist within a few decades. For example, AI pioneer Herbert Simon had predicted in 1965 that "machines will be capable, within twenty years, of doing any work a man can do".

However, as 2001 approached, it became clear that the film's depiction of computer technology was too optimistic. Capabilities such as natural language processing, lip reading, and commonsense reasoning on the part of computers were still science fiction.

Socks
Hal2007 commented on 16 Nov 2011
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't found a way to run daily/weekly/monthly maintenance scripts from within Socks. A feature I sorely miss, and every other competitor has.

Can you add it, please?

Strange app. It's not in the MacAppStore. I get an error message trying to access it. Nor has it a real developer site. I want to test it, but I can't download anywhere...

Not for me. I get an error message that the requested page is unavailable. Probably because I'm using the non-US MacAppStore?

Best of breed, hands down.

But, AppCleaner is free and good, too. I need an argument to buy it.

How about adding an archive feature, like AppDelete or CleanApp have? This killer feature would finally convince me to spend the money.

Thanks for making this free. It's a great app.

However, when I want to post, it doesn't load my circles. Says "circles cannot be loaded". Other than that, working just fine.

Enqueue
Hal2007 had trouble on 26 Oct 2011
Nice try. But it always crashes on importing my iTunes library.
I won't start from scratch with my playlists, so it's basically unusable for me right now.

Hoping for a bug fix.

Thanks for your fast reply.

It's always crashing close to the 90 % mark, indeed. I have about 4.900 songs loaded in iTunes, of which about 4.300 have been imported into Enqueue when the crash occurs.

Hope you get it resolved, because I really like the app, and intend to replace my iTunes usage by Enqueue.

Version 5 Final is crashing immediately when I start it up. The betas didn't. I removed every trace and reinstalled to no avail. Sigh. I *want* to use it, but I can't. What gives?

4.3.3 crashes on launch: An unexpected error has occurred ("AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'RawServer').

Things keep getting worse with BitTorrent. Transmission or Bits on Wheels are waaaay better and more reliable.

Even a BETA version has to fulfill at least one thing: I must be able to LAUNCH it sucessfully. Otherwise, I can't even evaluate...
