I have two issues. Firstly, Skim doesn't deal well with PDFs that require an overprint preview, but I suppose neither does Preview.
The other issue is with printing. If I print multiple pages to a sheet (for example 4 business cards) Skim shrinks them to a tiny size, whereas they would fit perfectly well at full size. I have to tell it to print a 150% or something like that to get actual size.
I suffer from sciatica and have to sit no longer than 15 minutes at a time without taking a break. It's very easy to forget, so I started looking for some kind of timed alert. Little did I realise that there were quite a few applications which catered for this kind of thing.
After trying a few and being a little disappointed with the crudeness and lack of options, I stumbled across Time Out. Instantly, it struck a chord with me. It's elegant, sophisticated, and has the right amount of configurability for me.
I've been using it for several months now without a problem. It feels comfortably integrated into my system and pleasantly reminds me when I need to take a time out.
The author has mentioned that he is working on a new version which will integrate most of the features requested by users. To be honest, I can't see much that needs added.
I'm sorry, but I can't see the point of this. The recipient isn't going to want a print coming out at random on their specially inserted letterhead paper just as they're about to print out an important letter. And considering they have to actually install the application and fiddle about with their firewall why bother?
A replacement fax machine? Most digital faxes send to email which is probably a better idea.
Why not email a nicely formatted text file that they can output at their leisure?
I agree with some of the other reviewers. This doesn't play very well and the balls take too long to stop.
It would be best if we could access the game options from the menu bar, as they can't be accessed while the balls are moving, and the balls move for a long time. I also think the table seem too small for the snooker game. It would be good to have options for resizing to fit fullscreen.
"Amazing 3D computer simulation". 3D must mean something different to me!
For this price I would at least expect the employment of a computer opponent. Again, like some of the other reviewers mentioned; you can get better for free on the internet, and if this is the best pool/snooker simulation we have on the mac, then I'll stick to gaming on the PS2.
I've tried many backup solutions over the years but Synk works very well.
There are many options to backups and synchronising which include giving you the option of saving changed files to a separate folder.
I synchronise about 15Gb of regularly changing work between 3 computers and this makes it a cinch. I've had no problems in the many weeks I've been using it.
The one thing that swung it for me was the support. The author runs a forum in which he tries to answer every query quickly and comprehensively. I've asked a few questions and have received answers the same day and to my satisfaction. You don't often get many authors actually caring about their customers.
The trial lasts 30 days and should be enough time to try it out. Once paid, you are eligible to any upgrade in the next 12 months for free.
I too had version X3 on my system set up for Auto Update, and I too had it replaced by version X4. Not a good way to go about things!
Generally this application has been ok. One problem I found was that some files were not synchronizing and I had to create the scripts all over again, or pick the source disk and destination disk again.
Another problem was that if I tried synchronizing a large amount of files, say 7Gb, the system baulked and took days to complete. If I set it to synchronize 3Gb it worked in minutes.
I think I'll be looking elsewhere as this has given me several areas of concern.
