MAMP

Since the past year i've been using XAMPP and while both will do pretty much the same thing, I just find the look and feel of MAMP to be a touch smarter. The dashboard widget for server access is great. thank you very much MAMP Team.

Alarm Clock

I have been using Alarm Clock for years and it wakes me every time without issue. The default alarm sound is gentle and sounds exactly like an old (actual) alarm clock radio i use to own years ago. Thank you very much for this application.

DMG Canvas

DMG Canvas is amazing. I'm surprised the developer is offering it for free (with $15 donation suggestion) since it's stronger and more user friendly than any of the other paid apps.

however, i did find a problem with the app, which i don't hold against the developer because it's freeware, and because i'm sure it will be sorted eventually. the problem is with the "Internet Enabled" option. if this option is unchecked, it works as it should locally and does not automatically copy contents of the DMG into the downloads folder. however, when the same .DMG is placed on a server and downloaded with Safari, it will copy contents automatically.

Transmit

Transmit is a reliable workhorse. I have been using it for years and have not once had an issue with the software. Other FTP clients i have used seemed bulky and non intuitive, so i was very happy when i learned about Transmit. Highly recommended.

iStat Menus

i installed a new HD on my 27" iMac since it died after only a 18 months. swapping out new HDs on the new iMacs causes the HD fan to constantly spin up to 6000rpm since Apple has a propriatary temperature sensor on the HD which is not compatible with other HDs.

i am very disappointed that iStat Menu doesn't work with controlling the HD temperature. of interest, the other 2 fans are controllable just not the one that originally drew me to downloading the application in the first place.

the only application that actually works is HDD Fan Control, but at $30 that application is a bit of a rip off. i would gladly pay $16 for all the features that iStat Menu offers if only it would control my HD fan!

GlimmerBlocker

Glimmer Blocker will do quite a number on Safari if it's uninstalled incorrectly (and by "incorrectly" i mean intuitively, the way you would assume software should be uninstalled). I am currently going thru the unfortunate process of removing Glimmer Blocker properly so that Safari works again. i am at least a bit thankful the developers post a guide on how to do this.

I do not recommend this software. If you want to block Flash, use ClickToFlash, which is a proper WebKit plugin that doesn't mess with your network or system files.
