Ya know I had used Thoth for a while, not to pirate but to actually take place in conversations and share ideas. It can happen. But then one day I got a taste of the author's bad attitude and god complex. Really I paid for the application and asked for a ground level of support, nothing lofty- and he snapped at me.
You know what, I don't need that from anyone. And so today I find myself fondly remember the application for what it was and still might be, a solid and good newsgroup client. But beyond that I refuse to try it again as long as the original author is tied to it. I'll take my money somewhere else where customer service is as important as the quality of code.
My review of the author is not the same as my opinion of the software.
Hats, hats and more silly hats. Its not fun anymore- there's too much garbage and it has completely departed from the game its supposed to be.
I paid for my copy a couple of years ago and I still resent it. In the beginning it was awesome and a great teamwork game. You could 'lone wolf' your game but it wasn't as profitable. Now they throw in crazy hats, jars of urine (for throwing around), more hats.. and I think that's all. Its free now and its still not worth it to me.
There are still some servers that don't allow the foolish garbage and I might play those but otherwise I've uninstalled it. Mac or PC.. its .. all about silly hats.
Great idea- a little too 'involving' for setup. Yes the author has ample documentation but really a package and front end beyond applescripts could easily make this a more polished product that I wouldn't mind paying for. In general I would say this is a 4.0 but the convoluted setup (managing a new google account is a work around not the solution) makes Ease of Use drop the rating considerably.
Still I believe the thinking and stability is solid. Good work!
Following up again on the progress of this app. I'll say its very advanced compared to its more humble beginnings.
Dragging files into a window reveals its path, color schemes are somewhat supported, and the speed and stability of the app are right where they should be.
What is needed now? Well perhaps nothing is needed per say but a nice to have would be a way to close a particular pane without having to lose the whole window. Also I would like my preferred view to be savable as my color scheme is. The ability to alter my current layout of panes would be more important when making changes. Excellent application. I'm ready to pay.
Works well enough is this is all you have to write to NTFS with however as noted by Devs, the USB transfer can suffer when slower devices are connected. My addition to this claim is, "or not" This is a much slower write speed to any NTFS volume be it a high speed USB thumb drive or a USB 2.0+ external. Buut, what are you going to do about it.. Good product, but the 'free' version is trivially limited.
I have to step in here- albeit some time after the last review- this application works well enough considering the hurdles required by not being a Window platform. The Sony Media app works well for PCs and this is a third party app to do similar for Macs without official support. In saying that you can transfer and manipulate your connected device within the boundaries lain out by BOTH MS and Sony.
I paid for the app- as long as you understand you're already behind 'it' by not running Windows (the supported OS for Sony) then you'll be more than pleased.
Well, whats to say- the PC version works well but porting this just shows how it runs within WINE. You can't see what's running in memory and so you can't search for strings or alter whats running.
I had fun with the original on the PC but this- at this point... is not working. But I have hopes for it.
The App store is a good idea and rolling it into an update makes some sort of sense I suppose but it really forces another application onto machines that, gasp, may not EVER connect to the internet. While the internet is a great idea- some colleges, businesses and medical environments lock down their systems so users don't have access to such things. As a system administrator rolling something like this into the OS updates means they'll have to repackage and deploy the update without the extras.
I see a great benefit to offering applications for download for a lot of home/personal users but Apple's are now in said businesses and consumer oriented value added content needs to be optional.
This all being said, I had no idea Angry Birds was available for the Mac OS beyond the iOS. So thanks to the App Store I now know and will likely be forced to buy it. Yes. Forced. ;) Only grip I have on the store rules right now is that I purchased some of the software OUTSIDE of the App Store and wanted to add a review of some of the fine offerings inside but unless you have a recorded transaction through the new application you can't write a review for it.
The program works better then Telneting into the AS400 system but some basic features are missing. I had clients request a simple feature like- hold your hats now.. "Landscape Printing". They don't want all their prints (from Word or Excel etc..etc..) so using the system's print settings isn't the answer. I contacted the author and they outright told me they wouldn't be adding any such functionality. ..and they never did.. So they get kudos for updating and maintaining this application but a few hisses from the crowd for not implementing a simple landscape print option.
