MacGDBp

Fongd reviewed on 29 Apr 2011
Overall, a pretty good and solid debugger for my needs. The configuration on the web server is what may turn many off to using a debugger with PHP, but the results can be well worth it.

NetNewsWire Lite

Note that this free version does not include support for syncing via Google. The developer has stated that this functionality will only be available in the paid version which has yet to be released.

Tower
Fongd commented on 19 Dec 2010
Been playing with Tower for a bit and I generally like it, although I do find it slower than GitX for basic usage. The main problem I have, though, is that pricing for the final product remains unannounced and the developer hasn't indicated (AFAIK) whether beta testers will be given discounts on the final product's cost. While others may be OK beta testing an upcoming commercial product at their own time and expense, I'd prefer to see some reciprocity in the form of free or discounted registrations.

TotalFinder
Fongd commented on 06 Dec 2010
The idea is nice, but I think the implementation leaves a lot to be desired at the moment. After installation, all of my desktop icons lost their position, so I had to rearrange my desktop. Worse, my MacBook Pro kernel panicked within 10 minutes of the installation, and I had even opted NOT to install the kernel extension to try to avoid such a problem.

I'm not disputing that this works well for other people. But this was the first kernel panic I've seen in months... in fact, the last time I saw a kernel panic was when I installed the previous version of TotalFinder. Not sure if this factors into it, but when I customized the installation of TotalFinder 1.1, the installer said it would upgrade my kernel extension and TotalFinder even though I had previously uninstalled them.

NerdTool
Fongd had trouble on 05 Aug 2009
I was looking at this as a replacement for MkConsole but 0.6 doesn't seem to respect the font size setting. It also took me a while to figure out that I have to toggle the logfile on and off before any font changes apply. This needs to be more intuitive, IMHO.

Yup, I launched NerdTool, add /var/log/system.log to the Default group, then change the font and font size. Nothing happens after I select the font or size. However, if I toggle the checkbox for the system.log entry, the log redisplays with the new font but the size seems to be completely ignored.
