I responded to the 'update' message when I opened my Version 2 yesterday and downloaded the new Version 3.0, unaware that it was not a free update but an upgrade with a hefty pricetag. I was then nagged for my license key so I entered my Version 2 key which, of course, didn't work.

Result: My older version was overwritten and now unusable (I'm digging around to see whether I have a backup somewhere). Boinx has not responded to my request for help restoring Version 2.

Two thoughts: (1) Boinx should make it clear that updating is NOT free and spell out clearly the upgrade costs in the update/upgrade window, and (2) $89 is roughly $60 overpriced for an upgrade.
