This looks okay, if all you want is a finely-tuned bunch of word lists. Might be worth fifteen dollars if your own vocabulary is limited — examples presented in the on-line demo range from ultra-obvious to childish, okay if you’re doing a goofy novel or a Sesame Street jingle. I asked dev about actual writing tools; he replied that MW is “definitely primarily a reference tool rather than a pure writing tool.” Caveat emptor.
It's hard to determine why anyone would go to such lengths trashing an efficient, accurate, and easily-managed tool -- one that is free -- with no better explanation than what comes down to "I don't like it." So you don't like it. Don't use it. Or at least go away after one lousy review. No need to pile on the minimal-star ratings.
If you need a hundred dollars worth of program, maybe you need Omnigraffle. But if what you want is, as the man says, "elegant" mind mapping, you can't do much better than this. And dev has been very responsive to problems.
I can sympathize with a few of the recent complaints -- sympathize, but not really agree. I find Chronories to be neat, Mac-like, easy to use, and extremely flexible. But it is a bit quirky, takes some getting used to.
If you don't need or don't like some features/categories, just turn them off.
I'd like to see a few changes or additions, but really, this is a good program, and if my experience with the developer is any guide, it will only get better.
I'd been fighting (and, mostly, losing) permission battles with Leopard almost since the day I installed it. Constantly being told I could not do something, did not have access, need to enter password, etc. Then I got BC, ran it on the troublesome folders, and all is peaceful and quiet and happy again. Really useful app.

(I don't mind the drawer at all. In this instance, I actually prefer it to a tabbed interface.)
