Missing Sync for Palm OS

eykanal reviewed on 31 Oct 2007
I bought missing sync for the purpose of being able to utilize Categories in the various applications (Palm Desktop didn't support this). I found that it was a fairly good program. It was able to correctly sync my contacts using address book (not some proprietary program, as Palm desktop does) and my calendar and tasks using iCal (again, not using some proprietary program). Mac does not have a default Notes program (more on that later), and unfortunately the proprietary program included is terrible. You can only view your notes but not edit them, and the resolution is very poor. I had few problems syncing my Palm Z22 with my Mac, but there were a few occasions when my palm began duplicating calendar entries each time I synced, causing there to eventually be ten of each entry. After speaking with the company I was able to find a temporary work-around, but the problem did recur.

The one-star rating is due to the reaction of Mark/Space to the release of Leopard, Mac OS 10.5. Upon release, Mark/Space notified their users that the current program is incompatible, and a fix will be available in **3 months**. Their product is advertised on the apple.com website, and is THE main sync program available for mac users. Rather than purchasing a developer machine and writing the new version before the release, they apparently waited until general release to begin testing. What's more, they released this version (v. 6) just a few months ago, when it was public knowledge that Leopard was going to be released in just a few months. Such an abandonment of their user base leads me to suspect the ethos of the company, and definitely has me searching for alternatives to their product.

All in all, they have a fairly decent product, but their disgraceful abandonment of the Macintosh community during 10.5 release leaves me with a very sour taste in my mouth for them. I am currently seeking an alternative sync solution.
