Lots of opinions when it comes to audio, but just listen a minute to an mp3 track I ripped (legally) from a YouTube video with Audio Hijack (regular edition under 10.7.1), I can clearly hear the difference to iTunes (which would no play the song until I quit Audirvana, but Audirvana could play it while iTunes was running). In my opinion it sounds much better than iTunes (for whatever reason). And this from listening to it through the in-built speaker in a MacBook Air ... more audiophile than this one has not to be in judging the difference. (Normally I listen mostly these days only to mp3 Lame encoded VBR high quality on an older iPod Nano (as it sounds much better than through my iPhone) and with Yuin pk-2 (which gives the most easy access to decent sound, I think).)
Totally confusing - ready for Microsoft ... . I do not have an hour trying to find the number I had dialed previously ... . How do I add a dialed number as a contact ... hitting around on nameless, unintelligible UI stuff might by chance result in adding a contact after some time. Columns and windows have no memory and they default to hide all information of any relevance. When making a call it is often just disconnected right away - no explanation of what is going on, no logs to search for problems. Connecting to the Internet takes time ... . On the iPhone it is mostly not usable at all. One improvement I have found in the recent version - it is now possible to actually hit the call button after selecting a contact - previously one had to go back and forth between contacts even to be able to place a call ... . I cannot remember having seen any quite as bad software for the Mac ever ... .
Have only tried the Mail duplicate function a little in the latest version so not sure I should rate it. Apple Mail in Lion is keen on duplicating messages (and can itself find a few random (?) ones, but offers no (clear) method of deleting them).
Anyway, TidyUp finds the duplicates (all of them, it seems like, - at least over 20000 in my message folders). Then I deleted 10 duplicates and was told to wait for this to be synced with Mail (which opened automatically). Then I tried to open the one single message that should be left in Mail, but even though Mail list the message in the mailbox, it cannot open it now. Alright, I guess one have to rebuild the mail folder and that helped. But next time TidyUp searched for duplicates it found more duplicates (which may be due to the rebuilding, but that did not happen when I tried the same procedure again, so maybe the duplicates that Mail creates upon rebuilding in Mail only happen the first time (in Lion)).
Quick Look and preview stopped working in TidyUp, but it did not happen again. I had a look at TidyUp before, but found it too complicated (like SuperSync for iTunes) even for me who works with computers, but the language and options seems to have become less confusing now.
Just to say I also think this is a very, very good little program. It is so handy converting to different formats at once. The naming of tracks/album and keeping of info in the original tracks has become better and might well get even better eventually (I hope). Maybe the biggest potential will be in making a more understandable & user friendly UI. Many operations are not very obvious and some settings may be hard to understand for people in general, but essentially it is easy to use.
Seems quite interesting - I am building up my Discog-collection in the wait for even better integration with this (or any other software) with that service. It seems like such an integration would very much be in the interest for Discog.com (but apparently they do not (yet) allow any synchronizing as far as I read). Thought also crossed my mind that a software that could handle integration with Discog.com would have a big market and maybe even attract other companies to buy up products like this. Who would not want to have better organizing possibilities in iTunes with integration with a database like Discog.com which is light-years better than anything like CDDB, MusicBrainz etc? But I guess discog.com & iTunes store have conflicting interests and that is probably why iTunes will never become a great music cataloguing software.
Well, since I have not tried MyVinyl yet (as I am still building my Discog collection) I only based that comment on the progress you already have made in that regard with more layout improvements, but what I hope for is of course some way to automatically update several entries from Discog at once without having to go through an export and import of a big database all over again (when you add things to Discog or things have changed there). It would also be nice to see some sort of syncing of data between MyVinyl and iTunes (maybe in some way like CDpedia that I use now, which may be a competing software if they could support Discog and be better on syncing with iTunes). Most people would want only one program to keep track of their whole collection (CDs, Vinyls, cassettes, etc.). As an aside - just focusing on CDs and digital media is an obvious dead end as the vinyl industry is again rising now with more vinyls being produced now than for last couple of years.
