I have been using this preference pane successfully for at least 5 years and pre Panther. As opposed to other utilities I use which take a kitchen-sink approach, Macaroni has a tightly focused suite of jobs which it performs seamlessly and flawlessly in the background. I suppose this is a function of its being a maintenance utility as opposed to a troubleshooting utility.
Macaroni automates the recommended housekeeping for OS X, plus adds some other benefits. After initial setup, it requires little or no follow-up or maintenance and has kept up with the evolution of the OS admirably. Set it a and forget it! I credit this little utility with allowing me to use my Mac over these past few years with extremely few issues.
Stable, cheap, efficient, well designed, and truly useful: This seems to be a paragon of what a utility should be.
I have been using FileChute for over three years to automate uploading files to my MobileMe account and emailing links for instant download. This has been a wonderful way of avoiding issues around attaching large files/folders to emails. In conjunction with my .mac/MobileMe account, this elegant little app was easy to set up and has been a pleasure to use.
FileChute allows ongoing management of the uploads, including prompts to delete files after a user-specified period. The developers issue free updates so that I have never encountered issues moving through OS X. All in all, an excellent little app and well worth the cost of registering.
FileChute falls under the category of utilities that once used, I wonder how I ever got along without. For those with a .mac account, this is a simple, seamless way of electronically disseminating files too large to email. In the two years or so I have been using it, I have never had any usability issues with it, so I can't comment on the developer's customer service.
Easy to set up, easy to use, with a clean, Mac-like interface--and as we expect from the best Mac products, it just works. Indispensable.
