I have been using this app for some time and updated.
After opening it, a window popped up over it called 'SmartDelete' that asked me to update it. By doing this, It gives the impression that it is connected to 'AppCleaner' somehow although I have not downloaded 'Smartdelete' before and wonder why it appears at all? Anyone else?
Thanks Dev. I didn't realize it was an AppCleaner Tool.
By having it's own window, preferences, and coming over the top of Appdelete's window when opened with a different name, I thought you were being Hijacked...hence my query.
Cheers - keep up the excellent work!
Just wondering why SD always opens a window on login even though I have not checked 'open at login' in dock 'options' and quit the application prior to shutdown. Any idea how I can prevent this? I did not have this inconvenience with previous versions. Thx :
Downloaded this from Software Update this morning.
Slower and beachballs a lot now.
Nothing else has changed.
Checked ping and download speed, which is excellent.
Usually updates quicken Safari initially and then slow down.
This update has the opposite effect.
Can't say I'm pleased with it atm.
It ended up being all the Safari extensions that was slowing it down, so I uninstalled 5 and kept 3 which it can handle without losing speed.
I only realized this after trying my backup Cruz, which doesn't have extensions, which was much faster.
Cheers St00 - tried trashing the Preferences and it was doing weird stuff, so I used Time Machine to go back to 5.03 which was much the same. Tried reinstalling 5.04 using TM but had screwed something up and ended up trashing that and downloading it again from MU.
It does appear to be ok today, and took your suggestion and just repaired Permissions.
Cheers mate for helping out :D
$2.49 eh? I've been using Smart Reporter, but it wouldn't take much to switch over to this app.
Seems like the Dev would like a few bucks for their effort with this one. Not too 'unreasonable' is it…$2.49?
I'm not affiliated, but it's always nice to see a handy little app @ a few dollars. Even at this low price, If enough people take it up, it is a 'win' for all.
Apparently there was a problem with my Admin password, so the request for the code had stalled.
The error was corrected, but the message when trying again, is that the request has timed out, and refuses to allow me to send another request, at least not at the moment. Is there a time delay on this?
I tried logging in with my mobile number and ISP password, which was rejected several times.
I have a 3rd party app connected to my ISP, and thought maybe this is causing a problem and turned it off. No change.
Then I thought I should have perhaps registered first.
The 'activation' number didn't arrive via sms.
Tried again and get 'Error in API (500)
Any ideas Developer, how I can get your app to work, seeing you now have my mobile number, ISP and password to my account?
I thought I may have done something wrong, and went back to the start and entered my info again. I received a message that my mobile number is already registered.
This app clearly needs step by step instructions, as I cannot get past the register/login phase.
Yeah I see what you mean about the note at the bottom.
It didn't appear until I clicked on 'more' at the bottom of the description.
I don't think MU are doing you a favor by having it out of view initially.
Even worse is saying 'Free' It should read 'Free/Fairware or just 'Fairware' with an explanation on the page describing what this is
After downloading this, a window popped up asking me to make a donation. I ticked the option which says something like ''no I do not want to make a donation now and stop bugging me'' another window popped up asking me to explain why I was not prepared to pay up now?
This was my reply until it appeared that by sending it, this dude might somehow have access to my email address, as it was not the usual format I am used to and opted to play it safe.
It is simply because I have only just downloaded your software to see if it works ok and that I am happy with it's performance after reading the reviews on MU.
So, instead of trying it out, I am having to explain to you why I have not paid already, which I am not overly happy about.
I'd suggest you give us an option such as '' You would like to try it first '' before considering making a donation, rather than make us tick a box that says like 'we don't want to pay you anything and want to use this for free'
Not impressed with your style dude, so this is going in the bin
It is not a case of 'I don't want to contribute' I haven't even tried it. If it is useful and works for me then I may choose to donate after trialling it, but we are not given that opportunity in a checkbox to tick.
After all, it is listed as 'FREE' not 'Fairware' with an expectation of a donation as you say.
If you want to do this, then have it listed as 'Shareware' or better still a free 'Demo' for a limited number of uses or time. People don't like being nagged to pay.
Every other file duplicate program charges, and I don't have a problem with you wanting to get paid for your work, especially if it is a good program and useful.
I would have preferred to try it out for myself due to the mixed responses given on MU.
Paying up front is risky unless you are getting mostly positive reviews.
I was asked for a reason why I did not want to contribute, and that you are interested in feedback. I don't know why you are saying that we/I was not asked in a window that popped up immediately after I checked the box. I was.
You guys put in heaps of work and time into these software programs, but in my opinion you are letting yourselves down by not marketing it correctly.
Personally, I don't care how good the program is if I get the feeling I am being pressured by the developer. The program should speak for itself.
I'd suggest the demo and not just hiding the payup windows the first time as you have indicated. It is important that developers appear like nice guys, and present their products in a friendly manner and respond quickly to queries and problems users may have, especially if they have paid for it.
Think also about it being listed as 'Free' This is a little deceiving which does not go over well.
Good luck though, it might be great software dude :D
I'm not trying to be a smartypants here, but It amuses me when these anti-virus trojan software come out and reviewers give it the thumbs up after saying that they'd given it a run and only picked up some tracking cookies.
If you wanted to give it a real test, it would be more convincing of it's effectiveness if we could instal a 'safe' virus and trojan to see whether these programs actually identified and eliminated them. I mean…how else do we know we are paying for something that will actually work.
Top marks to the developers if they do the job.

Ok, so it was because I checked the 'I don't want to contribute' box that I was asked why.
The only other option from memory was the 'make a donation box.
I was not aware that I could continue without checking a box
