Hear

Davidwb reviewed on 10 Dec 2011
Two things annoy me about Hear. 1) It doesn't automatically open when I launch iTunes so I often wind up not getting any benefit from it. 2) the application quits when you close its window which is NOT typical of Mac software. If I were using Windows I'd expect this behavior, but not when I'm using my Mac.

"Dad! Firefox 2,433,124 just came out! Are you going to download it?"
"No son.", Sigh, "I remember when whole number version increases meant feature changes, not bug updates."

Colored Folder Creator

A limited functionality demo will almost never get my money. It merely irritates me because I can't really judge the software. Did the developer show off the good stuff and hide the bugs? That's my suspicion. Give me a week or two with the entire program and I can judge. This program gets my two thumbs down.

GraphicConverter

While there is much to like about the new version, I'm holding on to version 6 because the slide slow is MUCH more powerful. My workflow for years has been to use the slide show, among other things, to find that needle in the haystack. Sometimes I'll use the mouse to breeze through 20 photos in a few seconds, but then I may need to hold onto a photo for several minutes. Not the new version. It also doesn't resolve aliases at all well. Meanwhile, when I want to simply move through a set of photos randomly, random doesn't seem very random. Just three flaws that keep me going back to V6

I bought during the MU Promotion expecting that if this were a limited license MU would indicate it. So far the developer is attempting to squirm out of giving a free upgrade by conveniently failing to notice that February 2010 is after December 2009. I've attempted to correct this ''error" and we'll see what happens.

The developer was "kind" enough to tell me the special upgrade cost was extended to April 25th.

My Living Desktop
Davidwb commented on 31 Jan 2010
Cool idea but I dumped it after 5 minutes. With a program of this nature I need some time to evaluate its stability and decide if I really want to spend so much money on it. Having 25% of my display proclaiming that this is a demo isn't something I want to look at while I'l deciding. When the developer comes up with a scheme that lets me take a real 10 day test drive I'll be back. Until then, into the trash it goes.

The developer has released another version of his software that doesn't correct one of its most basic flaws - it is impossible to deregister the software from one computer to use on another. If the developer bothered to communicate with his users this might not be a problem but he does not. So I've spent $20 on a program that is permanently registered to a dead motherboard.

Just to update - three emails to the developer. Three no answers - program still does not work. I'd like to get this developer into Whack a Mole. I'd whack him flat.

Technical support for this program doesn't exist. I've sent three email messages about the problems I've had with this program and gotten no reply. Avoid this developer.

This is a decent program with an unfriendly licensing system without any warning of the restrictions until after you license it. It is for a single computer only - tied to that computer. If you own more than one computer look elsewhere. I own a MacBook and an iMac and obviously cannot use them at the same time. Even companies like Adobe and Microsoft let me install their software on both computers - they just make it impossible to run the software on both at the same time. I've taken this program off my computer and I'm looking elsewhere. meh

That's interesting: I have TWO computers and whenever I try to run MacBook when the iMac is awake Clips conveniently tells me I have it activated on another computer and deactivates itself. So tell me, when isn't two two?
