Some years ago I was using FrontRow on a G4 MacMini connected to a 32" LCD Sony, after the upgrade to Leopard, due to the FrontRow idiosyncrasies, I've swithced to Plex for a long time.
Now, I've a new MacMini (intel) and it's connected via HDMI to a Sony LCD 47".
My wife uses eyeTV every day (USB Hybrid tuner) and for watching movies and tv series XBMC is far superior in playing "exotic" file formats (Matiroska for example does not play with Plex) and the streamlined interface is a pleasure.
