While fiddling around with this I noticed that one of the largest bars was for OS Track itself. Checked it on Activity Monitor and found it burns about 320 megs of RAM. Will hang on to this but it's a bit heavy to run in background.
If you like chrome there is no reason to not like chromium. You can enable synchronization to copy over enabled extensions and bookmarks even across platforms. The chromium developer builds are about a day or so ahead of the latest chrome builds (you can run both independently).
I simply prefer this over FF, Opera, Safari, Camino and the "other one that shall not be named".
