Still unusably slow loading files. I can't believe they didn't fix this in the update. I advise sticking with 2.2.3.7 until they resolve this.

Well, I just had the old dmg file in my Downloads folder. If you don't still have it, you might check your Time Machine backup for it. If you don't have backups, try searching google for "WM Components 2.2.3.7.dmg" and you should be able to find it.

Visor, that doesn't help if you want to edit a wmv, or even just use it in Front Row without waiting 10 minutes before it starts playing.

Yes, the new version is an order of magnitude slower than before. A full-size movie that used to take 10 seconds to load now takes several minutes. To fix this, revert back to version 2.2.3.7. I'm just going to stick with that until they come out with an update that fixes the speed issue.

I can't really believe they let this through QA. The difference between a minor delay that's a bit annoying, and having going out to buy a coffee is pretty major and most users are not going to tolerate this.

Vienna

cmason reviewed on 16 Sep 2009
I just heard that netnewswire was going ad-supported (ironically, it was their own beta update message that mentioned this.) I used to use netnewswire lite and was happy with it and never really needed the "pro" version. I got it anyway once they made it free but never really used any of the advanced features.

I tried newsfire and it looked nice, but didn't have the same 3-pane view I was used to.

So, then I found Vienna. It works great! I loaded up my subscriptions, changed a couple fonts, and that's it. It is doing exactly what I want with a simple interface that looks almost the same as netnewswire. Most importantly, *no ads*! Well done.
