I bought Speed Download ages ago and even paid for the 4 to 5 version upgrade. They put out far too many updates to warrant continuing to pay for upgrades though.
I've switched to Leech. Simple, sweet, priced right.
I agree that Speed Download has been in continuous development and that's a good thing. Remember, I *paid* for Speed Download! The problem is that I can't afford to keep paying for upgrades when major releases come out as often as they seem to, especially when the majority of changes seem cosmetic, and haven't really added much additional value given my basic workflow.
I still like Speed Download, it's just that Leech is a lot lighter and simpler and meets my needs; it's unclear whether this Lite version of SD is really "lite" after all, or just a rushed version to take on Leech.
So is this another free version of an existing piece of commercial software? In this case, Xslimmer? Ironically, aren't you also then competing with the free and open source Monolingual?
Choice is good, certainly. I'm in favor of that -- and I'm in favor of folks using projects like this to learn programming and so on. I guess I came across a little curmudgeonly because I this doesn't necessarily add anything new to the existing offerings.
I've been using this theme since it first came out and love it. 1.6 adds some nice features and cleanup, but the Dock hack is a little odd and uncomfortable. Otherwise, this thing is the closest you can get to Leopard without breaking the NDA!
I'd like to contradict and raise the rating of this app... I actually find it very innovative and great way to collect data and photos and associate them with people.

It's a great demonstration of how to make the most of this app.
