I've read the reviews about how responsive the developer of this program is and I can't say I've had the same experiences. I have emailed him on numerous occasions about issues with his server. Specifically, uploading attachments and lesson plans which never show up on my home page that he hosts. There are frequent outages, i.e.
"We're sorry, but something went wrong.
We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly"
It's frankly embarrassing to tell my students to check my PlanbookConnect page, only to have them tell me there's nothing there.
For $35.00, it's a PASSABLE lesson planner but there are better and cheaper alternatives. Either support the program or drop it. Either way, I won't be using it anymore.
Back on August 9 of 2010, I wrote a review trashing this software. With this latest incarnation, it runs both Windows 7 and Ubuntu virtually seamlessly. Considering Sun's tech support and forums actually offer help, this is a no-brainer compared to both Parallels or VMWare. In fact, I now like this program so much I'd pay for it.
It does everything said here and more. But let's lose the annoying "Please Consider A Donation" banner. Either that, or label this software correctly as "Shareware".
Worked fine initially, then started getting the following errors after attempting to start the VM's;
• Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory.
Please make sure that the kernel module 'vmmon' is loaded.
• Failed to initialise monitor device
• Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to
Good luck getting support on this product. I have tried complete uninstalls, downgrading to the previous version, etc. to no avail. After searching through VM's forums, the only fix seems to be if I go into Terminal and type;
This BTW, works. But frankly I don't see why I have to do this each and every time I want to start up VM. It's annoying and for $80.00, I shouldn't be typing Terminal commands before my OS' initializes.
I'm not an expert nor a noob but the only thing VB seems to have going for it is its price. After installing Ubuntu 10.04, screwing around with it for two hours, I still had no sound, awkward file and document sharing to the Mac desktop, and a window resizing problem.
My experiences with VMWare Fusion and Parallels were as uncomplicated as this was painful. Software shouldn't be this much of a pain in the a*s to use, even if it is free. Save yourself the grief.
