1: The installer detects the older version and asks if it's okay to replace it.
2: Choose "Customize" in the Installation Type screen to NOT have the browser plug-in installed. (It's installed by default.) If you choose to not install the plug-in, when you first run this version you'll be asked again if you want to install it.

How do we love ye, Adobe? The installer asked me to quit Safari, which wasn't running: after quitting iCab, (which was) the installer worked. I guess they want you to quit all browsers before installing, but can't bring themselves to say that. Whether it's necessary is another question.

It's not clear what this is. The download produces something called "Elmedia Player" that is drag and drop for installing, but there is also an "Uninstall.pkg" included and there's no documentation about what's going on here.

Some of the menus are in French, which may be disconcerting. The default location is not the desktop for the converted images: you can change this in the Preferences. The "thumbs" on the desktop are not the converted images.
