I must be missing something... there are so many similar free services eg DropBox, SugarSync, Insynch, Box and others, and they work on Snow Leopard.

I'd like to like this, I really would. But

1 - the Dev's web site is missing the download link. From MacUpdate you are sent to http://www.rbcafe.com/Cryptix-download but there is no actual download available. I eventually found another web site to download it from

2 - its advertised as being v 1.0, but the latest is actually 0.91, when it does an online check.

3 - Cryptix does not download the new version. I get a 4kb DMG on the desktop that never does anything

4 - is it free, or not? The software asks for a key, and says in trial mode with no save.

5 - I tried the Steganography, but it blew up a 1.3MB JPG into a 14.3 MB file that Preview says is corrupt.

6 - Tried the section "unix" > "logs" but it shows var/log/system.log as empty, when it isn't

Many of the features here like DNS lookup etc are just what you can do anyway, so I'm really not seeing the value.

And since this is a trial version I cannot save any files when I've encrypted them.

Hi, seems I cannot reply to your reply, so here's some thoughts:

1 - sure I understand
2 - I was unable to find v 1.0
3 - I can only report what happened... the DMG was downloaded by the Cryptix updater, not by my browser, since I couldn't find a download
7 - sure, I do, truly appreciate these efforts, and I offer constructive views.
8 - if you can let me have the link for v 1.0 I am very happy to try again.

I used CotVNC back in the day, before Apple's own Screen Sharing became useable. I'm back on CotVNC now because I can full screen VNC into a machine running 10.6. Why do I need to do this? I have ONE just ONE application I need that is PPC. I could upgrade at $$$ but why?

One very minor nit: the keyboard commands to go full screen / windowed on the current beta aren't sticky. But thats very minor.

If you do use CotVNC instead of ScreenSharing don't forget you eed to put a VNC password into the ScreenSharing Preference pane on the host machine.

For many people this will be a really convenient way to backup or export their data from Google.

Google themselves provide free ways to do it:

sorry, forgot to mention that if you want to move data the other way ie from desktop to Google, you can, with the very excellent CyberDuck.

This is a useful little application. I don't run as an Admin, so when I need to run an App as root eg TrueCrypt, I could run the command line

open -a LaunchAsRoot /Applications/TrueCrypt.app/Contents/MacOS/TrueCrypt

which replaces

su root_account -c "/Applications/TrueCrypt.app/Contents/MacOS/TrueCrypt &"

or if you can find Pseudo you can build an AppleScript to create an App that you can run. Pseudo is PPC code so you need Rosetta, which means no can do with Lion.

It would get 5 stars if it could convert straight to MP3, or download automatic at the highest resolution. Thats very minor crit because its free and its takes time to make such good software.

Most folks focus on PAR files in the Usenet context. I use PAR files to protect against data loss by taking data to be saved and building in some fault tolerance: http://www.hutsby.net/2010/10/creating-parity-files-to-protect.html.

PS I would give this 5 stars for everything if it automatically split the file into equal sized chunks for me.

Simply a great product and service.

I would have given it 5 for ease of use, if it could sync an arbitrary folder, rather than just creating a watched folder.

But that a minor minor complaint

Total life saver! Had 100s of files that had lost their type and creator codes. Find a file that still has them, or, make a new one, drag the others on Typeator, find the master, and bingo.

Camino

The auto-update seemed to go OK, but Camino would not launch. Tried 3 times then looked in the crash log.

Seems auto-update missed something, so downloaded a news dmg, and now it works OK.
