Great piece of hardware, mediocre piece of software, at best.

Instead, if you've got a PowerMate, I suggest using ControllerMate to run it.

On the plus side, you can set key-modifiers (shift-right, option-left, command-click-right, etc) and it doesn't have the "I'll work when I feel like it" functionality of the PowerMate driver.

On the down side, I haven't been able to get it to scroll, and the developer tells me CM doesn't support that very well at this time.

The demos on their demo page do nothing, and make no sound whatsoever. I'm unimpressed.
