Stable, powerful, feature complete and worth every dollar if you are using it to make money. Somewhat steep learning curve, but frankly amazing how fast it runs on older Macs. It's very light-weight.
I've been using XPress since version 4. Darn good stuff.
This version of iTunes, IMO doesn't deserve quite this low a score, but in light of it being so overrated I felt compelled.
This is a 3 star music player.
Which it has been since iTunes 4. It may be many things to many people but for me it is a music/podcast player.
I review it as such, since all other functions are either superfluous to me or just annoying.
I'd recommend this as a music player, but of course if you have an iOS product or iPod, well who cares what is recommended - this is what you have to use.
So its sole remaining competitive function is a music/podcast player. Why just 3 stars? It doesn't support all common formats, not lossless or WMA or FLAC etc.
It is distracting to use with all the features that have nothing to do with playing music/podcasts. Perhaps this is the "best" way for Apple to make the program, but it just doesn't help it. It's annoying, distracting.
Customizability is low, not nil, but low. Some plugins can be added, but it's neither made easy nor actively encouraged. Customizability of the app itself is practically zero.
The good: it plays music files and uses surprisingly little CPU.
It is also remarkably stable. Don't recall a crash in years.
Of course I give it only half a star in the ratings because of so many undeserved 5 star ratings, given just because ...
MacApp-store only, means it's basically unusable for me since I don't use the MAS. The earlier versions worked fine, it does what it does - just get an older version.
Don't encourage the developer by buying this on MAS and give Apple 30% and your personal info for free.
QXP 9.1 continues to add some basic features to the app, but for document layout/publishing nothing beats QuarkXPress - it's lightweight, it's fast, stable, reliable, compatible and versatile.
For anyone making money of his/her work, the price is well worth it.
This version is no exception. There is a learning curve, so this is not a useful app for amateurs who want to "be cool" and make their wedding invitations on a professional app.
Final thought; it stands on its own merits and feels quite a lot less bloated than the competition. I love Adobe, but they just don't make the best document layout app.
FCP is no more in this re-imagining of what non-linear editing should be. This is a solid enough entry into prosumerism, and perhaps the "pro" in FCPX stands for prosumer, and not professional.
That said, it has to be compared to FCP 7, the last professional entry into the series. And it doesn't compare. Now many would think that this is just Apple making things better and some naysayers don't want to embrace the "new way".
That couldn't be farther from the truth, in fact the new way of editing isn't all that bad and could well be adjusted to - it's the lack of features, the non-compatibility with previous FCP versions, the secret timeline, the immediate cutting of FCP 7, the way of distributing this for enterprises and the way it organizes itself in the familiar way of iPhoto, i.e. makes as much invisible in the file system for users as is possible.
There's a reason for why upon opening FCPX that it asks whether you want to import your iMovie projects. Because it's a consumer application. It is priced accordingly.
I am impressed. Fast, safe and reliable backup utility that is simple and intuative to use. It is for pros and amateurs alike and performs as advertised.
I can't recommend this app enough. We all need to back up and this is one solid solution.
